latest DVD purchases

I orderd the extended cut of 'King Kong' today and 'Serenity' yesterday.
And seasons 1, 2 and 3 of 'Murder She Wrote' as a Christmas preasent for my bf.

I was planning to hold off on purchasing Superman: The Ultimate Collection until the price point dropped quite a bit (it's a lot pricier in Region 2 than in Region 1), but I decided to spoil myself and went ahead and got it. It arrived today. Yay! :D

I also got the Alien Quadrilogy set, which was going for a good price.

Last week, I picked up The Polar Express - Two-Disc Widescreen Edition and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation - Special edition at Best Buy's "Two for $20" sale.

I also picked up National Lampoon's Vacation / National Lampoon's European Vacation - Comedy Double Feature, and The Bourne Identity & The Bourne Supremacy for $7.50 each.

Today, I'll be takin' The Polar Express back, unopened, since I bought it for my shift supervisor as a favor, and his wife bought it, too. I'm goin' to try & exchange it for the new Pirates of the Caribbean two-disc DVD.

- edit, to add -

IT WORKED!!!

I took in the two-disc widescreen edition of The Polar Express, which I got for ten bucks, and got a $21.99 credit for it, plus tax (the sticker price).

I exchanged it for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - Two-Disc Special Edition, plus the Best Buy exclusive Bonus Disc, but because of the price difference, I had to pony up $3.25, but the rest was covered by the sticker price on The Polar Express.

Go me!

:D

Talk about coming out ahead.

THe last few DVD purchases I've made were gifts for this Christmas season. I picked up "Willow" as a stocking stuffer for my wife. She's long enjoyed this film and wanted a DVD of it for some time.

Then I picked up "Cars" and "Finding Nemo" for - of all people - my parents. The setting for "Cars" speaks to a time when they were young and life was different, not that it's so bad now :). "Finding Nemo" - well, the lead character is named Marlin - my Dad's name, and they both revelled in it when watching the film last year some time.

She Who Must Be Obeyed has declared that I am not allowed to buy anything for myself until next month.

Yeah, I'm rather proud of myself for this one. :D

That's a shame, but ya might be able to get some good post-Christmas sales.

After I see what other DVDs I receive for Christmas, like the 2006 OSU football highlights. :D

Well done od0.

I did something similar once. ;) I got a season of 24 (not sure which one) for $15 USD on amazon.com. And then I returned it to a local WalMart for about $60 CDN. I then got a season of Angel and a season of Buffy instead. :D

I'm glad I got to Best Buy when I did or I might've missed out in getting 24 season 5. I'm glad they finally used the slim line cases instead of the gatefolds like the previous releases.

Yeah, my shift supervisor said part of PotC: DMC's big problem was too many action sequences, but I love the three-man fight, and that damn water wheel. That was cool.

Thanks to the thread in Gen SciFi, I did a quick count, and have 260 movies on DVD (not countin' the ones I'll be takin' to Half Price Books next week), and 14 television series season / series sets.

That's a lot of DVDs.

^ That's actually interesting, I thought you had more TV sets. I only have 124 movies, OTOH I have 78 TV sets.

Well, Tuesday evenin', I picked up James Bond Ultimate Editions, Volumes Three and Four at Circuit City for $47.49 each at Circuit City.

This mornin', I made a run back to the same Circuit City and, usin' the Fry's Electronics advert from yesterday's newspaper, picked up Nip / Tuck - The Complete Third Season for only $22.49, plus tax.

Considerin' that the sticker price on the box set is $49.99, I think I got a pretty good deal, even if the third season is the worst of the four that have aired (so far).

Finally got my hands on two Ken Stott films.

Dockers
The Debt Collector

Thank you, thank you who ever here pointed me to the region free DVD hack site.

Yesterday, I took advantage of Blockbuster's "4 for $20" sale on previously viewed DVDs, and picked up -

16 Blocks - Widescreen Edition
Never Say Never Again
Sky High

and
Ultimate Avengers: The Movie

Each one had a sticker price of $9.99, so go me! :D

Sunday morning:

24 Seasons 2-5

Yesterday:

The New Adventures of He-Man Volume 1

And I got a review movie at the end of last week called The Longing. It's German (I think) and looks...interesting. We'll call it "interesting" until I actually watch it.

Stopped off at Wal-Mart this mornin', and while grocery shoppin', I picked up -

Three Amigos

Thirteen Days

Darkman II: The Return of Durant

- and -

The Whole Nine Yards

- for only $4.88 each! :D
