Latecomer To This: JANEWAY DIED?!?

Not open for further replies.
Ahh, then I guess we just disagree on what's funny, but I might be colored by the fact that I rather like the character. I'm sure I'd find it a hell of a lot more funny if I didn't.

Kirk is my favorite character, but I'm the first one to break out the Kirk/Shatner jokes. I'm also the first one to break out the jokes about how a guy my age can still hold up as a hero the guy he watched on a B/W TV 40 years ago.

There's a lesson in there somewhere, but I'm too lazy to find it.

Just to pick up on this a bit...

When I went to see Generations I saw my favorite character die right there on the screen. After the movie I went outside and the world continued on like nothing had happened. How dare they? Didn't they realize the pain I was in!!!

Then I realized something... I had to go to work. There were still the kids to feed and bills to pay.

But what made me feel better was to know that the original 79 episodes were still at home on VHS and no one could take those away from me.

So when I see Voyager fans get in a tizzy over their favorite character getting killed I laugh just a little. It's fantasy people and there are still seven seasons of Voyager for you to enjoy.

There's a 42-page thread on this 15+ months after the fact? Really? :vulcan:
more like 2000 posts, if you add the two current threads and the closed one. quite fascinating actually. :)

Wow thats a lot.

"Wow" is right. I guess you can change the number of posts per page; I keep forgetting that, hence the "15 pages" comment.

I wonder what caused more of a commotion: "JANEWAY DIED?!?" or "Trip is Not. Dead."?

Since I was mentioned in a reply to this question, I must give you the story why this debate is suddenly coming up 15 months after Janeway was killed off in a book.

The reason is that until now, many people seem to have believed that it all was some stunt, that Janeway would return in the next upcoming "Voyager Relaunch" book.

But it has recently been confirmed that the killing off of Janeway is permanent and many of us who happen to like the character strongly disagree with that decision.

Just for your information, I didn't start this thread but I've posted a lot in it, expressing my dislike ove what I find a very bad move from those in charge of the Voyager relaunch.

Bring back Janeway!

Okay "Mortimers" (tm). We get that you don't fancy Janeway and you don't need her in Trek books. You may crawl back on deck 15 and continue you real lives, if Z. Janeway is really over and done for you. But I guess she has your minds instead. Who is the real reason for keeping this thread alive? Mortimers! (tm)

Ok, I keep seeing this posted in this thread and the carrot thread and I need to point something out; Janeway's death has not been confirmed as permanent, only that there are no plans to bring her back in the immediate future.

Marvel comics have done something similar by killing off Jean Grey a couple of years ago with no immediate plans to bring her back, but everyone still expects Jean to return at some point. I don't expect Janeway to be any different.

At the time I felt very much the same about Jean's death and as many Janeway fans do now, but I stuck with it and I enjoyed the stories that have been told. So in the meantime, why not sit back and see where this takes us. You never know, the results might surprise you.

I'm sorry, but whether Pocket Book has confirmed her death as permanent or not has little meaning to me as the result is the same; she's dead and gone, and so is basically the rest of the Voyager crew if reports here are to be believed. In my eyes that makes this Voyager relaunch a charade of sorts - at least calling it the Voyager relaunch; they might as well have called it something else.

I have no wish to read about other characters in other books that are basically strangers to me.

However, your opinions are valid in many cases and most likely for some here - just not me. :)

Whew! That's good. Because it's not called "The Voyager Relaunch" this is a title invented by the fans not the publisher/editor.

How about then, Star Trek Voyager as that whole relaunch thing was coined by fans, not the people at CBS/Pocket.

So I guess you've never heard of the old saying: "A stranger is just someone you don't know yet" then?

Well if they ever bring her back then I'll add that book along with the books I'm currently skipping to my "To read" pile. Until then I guess I'm saving some cash. :)

Lynx, you have GOT to try DS9. It is by FAR the best Trek series

from there - move on to the DS9 post-finale novels - you won't regret it!:bolian:

He'd like it until they kill off one of his favorite characters. So perhaps it's best for him to just stick with safe shows where nobody ever gets killed and everyone lives happily ever after.

Kevin

Don't worry... I think you'd have what? 8 years of reading at least before that happens? If it ever happens... And they're very very good!! (And I'm not just saying that because someone awesome person put a Jem'hadar in there).

How does a mysterious and likely false report of one character death equal "basically the rest of the Voyager crew"? Kes was dead already, Neelix stayed behind, and Janeway died but wouldn't have been on the crew anyway; aside from this other unconfirmed thing from A Singular Destiny, everyone else is fine, and that's more retention of main characters than either DS9 or TNG has at this point.

Don't forget Tuvok is now on Titan. So, he probably would not be much involved in the new books after Full Circle.

Regardless I just can't understand why fans want to contrive some stupid way to bring the band back together just so the whole crew is in place. The ship got back and everyone's lives have moved on. If the concept of Star Trek: Voyager is to tell the continuing story and mission of the ship then the story needs to move forward and that unfortunately would mean some of the original members not involved in the stories.

The only other choice is to strictly limit Voyager books to stories written within the body of the 7 seasons. Enough of those stories have been told already. It's time to move forward.

Huh? What reports? Where? Thats not true at all...

But what are facts to get in the way of a rant! :rommie:
