Latecomer To This: JANEWAY DIED?!?

Oh, I thought it was in some recent book.

I have to admit that I haven't watched all episodes of DS9, due to stupid policy of the station in my country which only aired season 1. After that, I've only been able to watch occasional episodes on borrowed tapes. I guess I have to buy DS9 on DVD.

Where do you live then? I know it's some where in Western/Central Europe as you're an hour ahead of me.

Sweden actually. Our channel 3 did air one season of DS9, then they just dropped it while channel 5 aired TNG over and over again during the whole 90's (itwas recently on re run at another channel) while STV2 did air all of Voyager between 1998-2001 (but I started borrowing tapes with the Voyager episodes some months before it went on air here so I was ahead of scedule up to season 4) .

Lynx, you have GOT to try DS9. It is by FAR the best Trek series

from there - move on to the DS9 post-finale novels - you won't regret it!:bolian:

He'd like it until they kill off one of his favorite characters. So perhaps it's best for him to just stick with safe shows where nobody ever gets killed and everyone lives happily ever after.

I mentioned elsewhere that DS9 was too dark for me. I don't want all that negative energy in my fantasy life when there's a lot of crap happening in Real Life. That's why *some* of us read and watch sci/fi and fantasy - to escape. We don't want our favourites killed off.

*some* of us read sci-fi and fantasy to experience involving stories, set in futuristic \ alien setting, with rich characters having fantastic adventures which both change and develop their personal arc...

as the X-Men used to say: "Life is change...either we adapt or we perish"
(hmmm...too late for Ol' Kathy J...)

I also read and watch for those reasons. If it's good, I identify and become attached to my characters. I don't need a happy ending, but I like to be left feeling hopeful.

Can I ask why this is needed?

too late for Ol' Kathy J...

'Ol' Kathy J' seems a tad disrespectful to her rank and position as an Admiral, fictional or not. IMO, there feels like there is disrepect for certain characters on this board, Janeway being one of them, based on different threads I've read over the past few weeks since I joined.

You're allowed your opinion and reasoning; I'm allowed mine. I don't feel the need to swear in capital letters or insult people, or make outlandish statements to see if the mods are watching, as I've seen in many posts in various forums. We're here to talk Trek, aren't we? We can agree to disagree.

Oh for crying out loud, people. Get a sense of humor, or at least realize the distinction between goofy jokes and real "bashing."
