Merry Christmas, Whovians!

Two heroic icons – the Doctor and Santa – along with Clara Oswald, are thrown together in one of the Time Lord’s most incredible adventures yet!

If she goes, as rumored, I'm going to miss Clara and Jenna Coleman. My favorite companion of the series so far, great interplay with the Doctor, great acting and chemistry with the 2 leads she's worked with, and just plain gorgeous to look at every week.

So if this is your swan song, thanks Jenna. You were...fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. :techman:

And if not, thanks for staying a little longer! :)

I hope Jenna's gone. Aside from being terminally cute, the only other thing I've really liked about her character is the fact that she overlapped two Doctors and we got to see a companion deal with the change (an aspect of the show that I like). Except in her case, it made no sense since she had seen the Doctor in all his incarnations. It made her really annoying this season and I think it's time for 12 to start his tenure in earnest with a new companion.

Until the "twist" at the end, I thought this was a 5-star episode (despite the Alien+Inception plot construct). However, there was that ending... and it sucked.

I'm sorry, but the ending really bothered me.

I gave it a Good rating, not the best and not the worst. I agree with The Lensman, Even if the Doctor never died Trezolore and Clara never went back into the Doctor's timestream, She met the War Doctor and Tennant's Doctor in Day of the Doctor so Matt Smith's Doctor changing to Capaldi should not have been that big of a deal for her.
I think Capaldi needs a new companion to he can have a fresh start.

Looks like Clara stays for another season though I read that the original script had her die of old age but Jenna decided to stay at the last minute. It was a typical X Mas Doctor who episode of being good (very good in places) but never great. I thought Nick Frost was fantastic as Santa and loved his interaction with the Doctor.

Ah, that explains why I thought, for a moment, that there would be a new companion next season.

This probably won't stand up as a classic in the long run, but it was easily better than all of the previous Moffat Christmas specials.

I feared the worst, but it worked out really well. Another run through familiar tropes (the monster with a psychology gimmick, the mortal/immortal, the how-did-they-not-get-sued influence of Inception and Half Life), but it made sense in the way it had do, and was suitably amusing, touching, thrilling etc. The faux ending felt like padding though, just to milk the fan wondering about whether Clara would stay.

So overall, a winner.

Theres another thread that mentions it was supposed to be the blonde women "Shona".

I mostly enjoyed it, but I started to groan a bit once I worked out it was doing Inception. I liked the OAP Clara bit, and of that had been her last I'd have actually been ok with it. That would have been nice.

But, instead once again it was a missed opera unity to kill her off, so bergh. It petered off towards the end but it was an alright one, and certainly the best Christmas one for a while.

I just wish they'd stuck with the allegedly original ending. Old Clara and the Doctor meeting up for one last Christmas is just great.

Wonderful episode and easily the best episode of the troubled season. That being said, I agree with everyone else that the episode should've ended with old Clara on a melancholic note. I'm ready to move on from Clara.

The rumor of Faye Marsay possibly becoming the next rumor was forefront of my mind the whole episode and I'm honestly disappointed that Shone didn't join The Doctor in the end instead of Clara. But who knows, maybe she will join up next season. The scene lingered longer with her character than the others after waking up.

I must be getting too old for this.

Capaldi on fire as usual. Clara mostly tolerable. Other actors more than adequate in their roles.

But that story left me cold (no pun intended). Santa? Really? Even if it is dreams?

I must be getting too old for this.

The Doctor has travelled with more than one Companion in the past, so there could still me a new companion next year.
