Larry Nemecek’s Trek Land

Watched part 1 and then wasn't allowed to watch part 2! (I was a nasty kid, apparently, and my parents used tv bans as punishment)
So you had the psychological trauma of believing that childhood hero Picard had been assimilated and lost to the Borg, until you were allowed to watch part 2? How did you eventually watch part 2?

I have never seen Star Wars, but would you say that the transition of Picard to Locutus is similar to the Skywalker to Darth Vader story? I am sorry if this is a stupid question, I am just curious.

I asked if he remains a Borg, and they told me he ends up back in his ready room with just a few patches left on his face. Finally saw it later on a rerun.

How/where did you first watch Best of Both Worlds? Apparently the writers did not even plan it out! They wrote part one and had no idea how to finish the story, part two did seem like a bit of an anti climax to me at the time though, a bit of a rush job after boxing themselves in to a corner?
More a matter of they didn't know if Stewart would be back, so left it open that if Picard was killed Riker could step in. Since Stewart came back, they had to succeed in rescuing him so they couldn't just destroy the Cube. Minorly anticlimactic, but only in so far as I was expecting a big boom at the beginning, based on what my friends told me.

As an episode it's fine, average for TNG.

I love his podcast, The Trek Files. Super highly recommended for some interesting dives into Trek production history.
The Trek Files has at times been super frustrating for me. There is an enormous amount of material in the Roddenberry archive that illuminates how TOS, TMP, and TNG were created, and yet he's gone over the same TOS season 3 script progress memo multiple times, and have spent several episodes on old pieces of fan mail.

That’s probably because Larry is not being asked the questions that you are interested in, so you should ask him about the things that you want to know in the chat. Discussion is driven from the audience interaction usually. It’s basically a Q&A…

Live episode on now, btw. :D

The Trek Files podcast doesn’t have an interactive portion, unless you count the Facebook page. Are you instead thinking of Trekland?

Yes, I am thinking of Trekland. But my point still stands, you could ask him any of the things that you are interested in on Trekland. The show lasts about 3 hours and sometimes Larry runs out of things to talk about and rambles as a result to fill the time, so I am sure that he would appreciate your input as it would give him cool things to talk about. :bolian:

Did you ever ask Larry my question?

Yes, I did. I have made a clip of your question (which I asked on your behalf) which includes his answer.

It is mentioned that some of the kit bash models may have been published in the Star Trek Fact Files (which I have in storage), so I will look through them at some point and see what I can find but this may take some time…. If you cannot watch this video for whatever reason let me know and I will summarise.

Thanks for asking him my question, and I hope he does indeed make a kitbash slideshow in the near future. When he mentions the ‘Columbia’ that was used in PIC, I think he meant the Centaur that was used in PRO. The only known DS9 kitbashes that were published in the Fact Files were the Centaur and the tug, and the Centaur was woefully inaccurate to the studio model. It was that inaccurate version that was seen in PRO.

Did Larry ever show photos of any models?
