Largest Starfleet Starship

But the galaxy is bigger, a lot bigger. Galaxy Class was 5,820,983 cubic meters and the Prometheus was only 769,670 cubic feet.

Online figures arn't canon and are made up, it's clear to see the Prometheus is larger and far more bulky than a Galaxy.
The Prommie saucer alone is as big as a Galaxy class ship.
The Prometheus doesn't look larger at all. Not to my eyes.

When comparing you've got to look at certain features such as windows, deflector dish, nacelles etc, when you put pictures side by side it's clear the Prometheus is larger because the Prommie Saucer is slightly larger but also more importantly it's far thicker and then the engineering hull is more bulky than the Galaxy and instead of 2 nacelles there is four.
It's easy to see the size difference.

Galaxy / Galaxy 2
Prometheus / Prometheus 2

At 1:1400 scale a Prometheus class ship would be a little over 11 inches long. About the same length as an Akira class. A 1:1400 scale Galaxy class Star ship is about 18 inches long. Trying to gauge scale from matte paintings is impossible as there is no comparison point.

I don't think it's a simple as that. I mean, the New Orleans class has the same type of nacelle as the Galaxy, but the Galaxy's nacelles are bigger. The Sovereign has a thicker engineering hull than the Galaxy, yet the Galaxy has more internal volume. And we've seen windows of different sizes before, sometimes on the same starship.

On the other hand, we do have a decent scale for referencing, in that we see the Nebula, Akira, and Defiant classes in its debut episode, as well as the Prometheus flying with the fleet in Endgame, conveniently close to a Galaxy class. Can anyone make some screen shots? :)

The interesting part about those figures is that they were made using 3-D models using a program that could then estimate the internal volume of the models. The two major factors are the accuracy of the models used and how they're scaled.

With such limited information available, that's as good as it gets. Much better than eyeballing it, which is a trap many fall into when it comes to the Sovereign/Galaxy comparison.

As for the length of the Prometheus, I'd think it was roughed out from the MSD from the episode. At least I vaguely recall there being one...

Yes and your "rough estimate" is canon. Trust me those numbers are as accurate as you can get, they are estimated by scaling experts and volumetric formulas. If you also look at some of the semi-canon encyclopedia's numbers on crew capacity the galaxy greatly outnumber that of the Prometheus.

THE PROMETHEUS CLASS!

Obviously. :brickwall:
As if the Galaxy comes anywhere near as big as the Prometheus, what a laugh.

Links are bad, but thanks for trying. :vulcan:

I decided to look up the Prometheus on www.ditl.org. While it's an online source, it lists backstage info and Rick Sternbach, the ship's designer, as sources for the Prometheus, so I'm inclined to trust it.

Anyway, for the Prometheus, according to Sternbach:
Length : 415 m
Beam : 163 m
Height : 64 m

Compared to the Galaxy, according to Mike Okuda:
Length : 641 m
Beam : 470 m
Height : 145 m

And, just for fun, the Sovereign:
Length : 680 m
Beam : 240 m
Height : 87 m

The Prometheus is simply an oversized Intrepid Class being the Prometheus comes in at roughly 1,360 feet (414 meters) in length, compared to Voyager 1,130 feet (344 meters).

Anyway the Prometheus is nowhere close to as large or it is not larger the a Galaxy Class Starship. Anybody who says that the Prometheus is, needs to recheck there info.

Also in (VOY: "Message in a Bottle") there is a picture of a fleet of SF ships. Within this picture there is a Galaxy and a Prometheus which clearly shows the Galaxy being the bigger ship.

Also the Galaxy Class is the largest ship in SF which has a total mass of 4, 500.000 tonnes. Next would be the Sovereign with a total mass of 3,205.000 tonnes and then the Nebula with a total mass of 655.000 tonnes.

Ah if you check the info from trekmania.net which I went to being your links did not work. It clearly states that the Prometheus is 414m in length with 16 decks. The Galaxy is 641m in length with 42 decks. Which means the Galaxy Class is way larger the the Prometheus.

So no, the Prometheus does not have a thicker saucer nor is it engineering hull is bulkier then the Galaxy. Also by looking at pictures of the battle between a Nebula and the Prometheus proves this. :vulcan:

Here is a pretty close size difference between the Galaxy Class and Prometheus Class. Notice that the Galaxy is bigger! :vulcan:
