Lanthanites and Pelia - speculation

Hollywood notwithstanding, not everyone is automatically a super villain because they live a very long time.

Pelia may have lived out her years just going along observing the different societies through the centuries.
Guinan would have done the same if her connection to Q and Picard hadn't come along.

As I posted elsewhere, Carol is saying in interviews that Pelia is thousands of years old.

So how many of these Lanthanites are on Earth and how long have they been there? Because in other franchises even a small number of immortal people overseeing Earth for thousands of years already puts them into Illuminati/secret society territory, usually as a force of evil.
We've been talking about it since page of this thread.
No, they don't have to be evil.

Facebook I-have-nothing-better-to-do-with-my-time-than-come-up-with-outlandish-theories theory:

Pelia is the same character as Simka from Taxi, making Taxi the same universe as Star Trek.

To which I say…sure, why not. It’s not like the two shows have anything else in common other than that.

I'll buy that for a dollar.

"I haven't taken a math class since Pythagoras made the crap up!" :guffaw:

Haha. I loved Simka.
They should show a clip of Taxi with Pelia declaring she used to be an actress and her stage name was Carol ..

I like the idea she was in NY in the 1970s/80s married to a mechanic at the sunshine cab company

Of course, now that I think about it, this theory can't possibly be true, as there was an episode where Jim had a tv producer in his taxi, and they had a conversation about Star Trek getting cancelled...

TOS is a just a dramatic recreation of real events by Gene Roddenberry, that he learned from a stranded Temporal War agent.

I have to say I'm not convinced of Pelia as a character. It's a funny joke character. But IMO stops working once the plot demands a more serious tone like in the season opening.

Also, we have now more human-looking aliens (Una & Pelia) than alien-looking aliens (if you can even count Spock as that) in the main cast.

And yes, I'm still salty they killed Hemmer. That guy was the best.

Even though they have already specifically said she's not?

Unless I missed a line in episode 3, no they didn't. Her people have a name, just like every group of humans, that doesn't make them aliens. And Spock specifically says "among other humans" when talking about them. They are a sub-species.
