I wouldn´t say that. True, Kirk got (almost) all the ladies but he also had a few serious (quality) relationships. So he really had the best of both worlds

My theory is he finally settled down(settled for?) Deanna after he was pretty much deteriorating physically and had gotten older and wider and thus his playboy days were behind him. Awfully nice of her to pretty much wait for him all those years.
