An Officer, you changed your avatar - and to ShatKirk!
This is a day to remember.

You're right, I do tend to keep the same avatar for years. :p

The new film has served to remind me of my love of Kirk. For that, I thank Paramount. And to celebrate my rekindled love affair with Star Trek... more nekkid Kirk. Enjoy ladies. :D

Love it that he's still wearing his badge - on the left hip - rocks.

Not much needs saying, here. *Zips mouth*

Read everything he says backwards, and you'll be closer to the truth. It's like the Monty Python reverse meaning nodding thing, or was that the Carry Ons? Maybe both...

Brotherly? Hmmm... They look like a happy couple.
Yeah...that was the overwhelming assumption; mine was the exception.

I have this feeling they are brotherly, with Zach being the little brother. He's very accomplished, but I think he might rely on Chris.
I don't think so.

Chris seems totally open, funny, good-natured and almost childlike. Zach is also sweet and funny he can also goof around, but at the same time you always feel something unusually serious and intense about him, even in those interviews. He seems like someone who is very serious about acting and his roles, but doesn't care a bit about the whole celebrity thing. I get this impression that, while he is very nice, he's the kind of person who doesn't pay much attention to what people think, and that nobody could make do anything he didn't want to. I love those moments in some of the interviews with him when interviewers ask him something really stupid and he just looks at them as if he'd cut off their head  but then just gives a serious answer that ignores the stupidity of the question.

I

And just because a baby with a pointed ear is too cute for words... Aww. I want a director's cut. You got to admit that the kiddie Spock scenes beat the kiddie Kirk ones (granted, there are deleted scenes of both). I was actually impressed by Kogan.

Yes, little Jacob Kogan was amazing - and he really looked like little Spock. Another instance of perfect casting. I've looked him up on IMDB and Wiki and it turns out his biggest role so far was the lead in a psychological thriller "Joshua" - apparently, he played a creepy psycho child. Which made me realize that all the actors who got cast as Spock had previously made their career playing villains! (Well, maybe not the kids in STIII:TSFS or the baby from ST09 ).

I really wonder how they showed Spock's birth in this movie and what the scene between his parents was like. Can't wait for the deleted scenes!

Sounds like the author of this article did not see the movie. I'm guessing, they watched the trailer, maybe the bar clip that released before the movie, figured that Kirk and Uhura would 'obviously' be an item, and then picked up a few complimentary quotes from Pine and Saldana to 'spice it up'.
I wouldn't doubt the author hadn't seen the movie, but the publicity promotions are playing the triangle. The new movie poster has just the three of them -- Kirk on top, with Uhura and Spock on the lower sides.

This was of some concern to me, since I and probably everyone considered the triad to include McCoy. Uhura was introduced third in the movie, after only Kirk and Spock -- and before McCoy. There is something intended; whether it's romantic, I don't know. But it is definitely a triangle.

Well that's just me. I'm brilliant. :D
Right again!
It's not a triangle, not in any real sense of the word. I guess you could call it a triangle in a very loose sense of the word, but even that ended quickly. What it was, was a deliberate campaign of misdirection. Look at the trailers - almost everyone was fooled into thinking that there would be a Kirk/Uhura hookup. People even thought that she was the woman Kirk was having sex with, some newspaper articles even stated that Uhura has a 'hot sex scene with Captain Kirk', based on the trailer. Then they released the bar clip with Kirk and Uhura as one of the preview clips, and Pine and Saldana were even photographed posing as a couple for a magazine cover (I think it was EW), all before the premiere. The publicity for the movie (as well as the early part of the movie) was obvously intended to mislead people into expecting a Kirk/Uhura romance, in order to surprise people even more when they realize it is actuallySpock/Uhura. And it worked perfectly with the majority of people. Well, at least for those who did not read spoilery reviews and comments after the world premiere in Sydney in April. Almost everyone was expecting Kirk/Uhura before the premiere... afterwards, the spoilers about the Spock/Uhura romance spread like wildfire throughout Internet. But those who did not read blogs and fan reviews and remained unspoiled were mostly totally surprised. The movie itself was structured in such a way to fool people into thinking Uhura was Kirk's love interest, with just little hints in a couple of Spock/Uhura scene. and then - bam! - comes the turbolift scene.

I am not against a stronger female presence, but that poster shocked me a bit too.

Now you talk of a triangle, but the article said "rare romantic angle". (As in the part of the post you didn't quote :D) Nothing about a triangle, I checked.

Now, about triangles...

It seems on purpose.

It's obviously a promotional thing - and it is certainly not geared towards Trek fans. Most of the publicity for the movie was aimed at attracting new viewers. I wouldn't read much into it. Simply put, they thought having a woman there looked better and would attract more viewers than having just guys.

McCoy and Uhura actually roles of very similar importance and screentime in the movie, we got to meet them as people and professionals but their main role was still providing support to one of the lead heroes - McCoy to Kirk, Uhura to Spock.

DevilEyes, as much interest as I have in the romance, I don't think they will permit Spock and Uhura to continue as a romantic couple, so the point would be moot in that case. It doesn't make sense they would commit a dynamic character like Spock.

Zach has already said that his character was in a period before he found balance, so they may have told him something will happen to make him more like TOS Spock.

I agree they intended to draw in women by including Uhura in promotions with Spock and Kirk, but IMO women came to see the movie because of the males in it. They could have done as well by putting McCoy on the poster, but they probably wouldn't.
