La-La Land Records to release 4-disc DS9 soundtrack set!

Beautiful! I hope it includes a lot of David Bell's work :-), but I'm looking forward to all the tracks. I hope it sells really well and fast so that they can do Enterprise next and hopefully another TNG (I'm still screaming for "The Arsenal of Freedom" and "Peak Performance", "The Hunted" and "Power Play" and more from season 1!!! :-). Thanks so much LaLaLand, you'll have my $50.- the moment you take orders!

Bell's work could be considered repetitive but I really liked his scores. There's lots of brilliant music between seasons 4-7 and I hope it doesn't emphasize too much on the sonic wallpaper of the early seasons.

Really looking forward to this set.

Speaking only for myself, I'm thrilled that we're getting another comprehensive collection of scores from DS9. La-La Land, you've got my $50.

Well, since you beat me to posting more or less the same comments, you can speak for me too.

But only this once.:bolian:

...I'm in, too! Bell was a refreshing change from McCarthy and Chattaway, so I'm also hoping to hear some of his work on this album. Looking forward to the release!

I'd be interested in hearing Bell's work. The score I most want to hear, though, is Paul Baillargeon's "The Siege of AR-558." It's one of the few melodic scores that Rick Berman allowed through during the ten year period between firing Ron Jones (1991) and Enterprise (2001).

I can live without any of Bell or Baillargeon's scores. I desperately want McCarthy's score for Way Of The Warrior and Chattaway's music for Call to Arms.

Since this is a 4 disc set, do you think they'll devote one disc per composer?

Music from "The Way of the Warrior" is part of the second volume of The Best of Star Trek::

True, however the TNG Volume 1 collection also included some music from previously released albums. Plus the Best of Album didn't include the entire score from Way of the Warrior. McCarthy is my favorite composer overall, however I do hope that they give a lot of disc time to Bell and Baillargeon, as well as some of John Debney's scores. I'm quite sure though that McCarthy and Chattaway will likely have one disc each.

I really want (amongst others) the closing ten or so minutes from What You Leave Behind. The montage score (with the nice little nod to "Minstrel Boy") all the way up to the closing credits.

And it probably won't happen, but I would love for them to find a way to include the Vic/Sisko duet "The Best is Yet to Come". (They had Nana's Fever on a previous CD, so it's not an impossible dream. :) )

I'd really like to see something along these lines!

Disc 1 (McCarthy)
- In The Hands of the Prophets
- Homecoming/The Circle/The Seige
- The Jem Hadar
- The Die Is Cast
- Shattered Mirror
- Apocalypse Rising
- Blaze of Glory
- Far Beyond The Stars
- Once More Unto The Breach
- What You Leave Behind

Disc 2 (Chattaway)
- Past Prologue
- The Search (1 and 2)
- Dax
- The Adversary
- Our Man Bashir
- Empok Nor
- A Call To Arms
- One Little Ship
- Baddabing Baddabang
- The Changing Face of Evil

Disc 3 - (Bell)
- Second Skin
- Sons of Mogh
- Soldiers of the Empire
- Sacrifice of the Angels
- Who Mourns for Morn?
- Profit and Lace
- Take Me Out To The Holosuite
- Tacking Into The Wind

Disc 4 - (Others)
- The Nagus (Debney)
- Little Green Men (Baillargeon)
- The Assignment (Smith)
- Honor Among Theives (Smith)
- The Seige At AR 558 - (Baillargeon)
- Field of Fire (Smith)

Personally, I'd rather have complete episode scores than having only 6-8 minutes from each episode...

If we had the option to hear complete episode scores (a la the TOS and Ron Jones box sets) I'd definitely go with that option, but if the music is being limited to four CDs, I'd rather just hear the best cues from the series. I love Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, but even the best scores to the best episodes could have absolutely dull cues of sonic wallpaper in them. I have no need to hear those if it means missing out on better music.

Very true, however even the TNG set which was limited to 3 discs had a bit of that sonic wallpaper, especially on Chattaway's disc. (IMHO) the track selection in the TNG set was a bit questionable overall.

I understand it was supposed to be the first of multiple volumes which haven't yet materialized but the TNG set was a real missed opportunity for me, there were too many great cues from Next Generation missed out in favour of episodes with sonic wallpaper. The last disk being particularly weak; Steiner's unremarkable score for Code of Honour and music from 2 episodes that could have been lifted directly from seaQuest.

You're kidding, right? Code of Honor is "unremarkable" ? Really?

Naturally his work on TOS was sublime but I could never bring myself to like the score of this episode (or the episode itself for that matter). To me it lacked in comparison to the scores Jones and McCarthy were producing for the first season which I think are some of Trek's best music. Only my opinion of course.
