Kurtzman gets 5 1/2 year deal with 3 new shows in the works

I'm not the biggest fan of what Kurtzman has done with the franchise so far, but it would be a bit ridiculous to lie to myself constantly about him being fired.

I've felt similarly about a couple of entertainment franchise scenarios over the years. And yeah, I never resorted to lying to myself and others about the financial success of the folks responsible for that stuff going, IMO, southward.

It's so silly.

Sharpen the guillotines, Alex Robespierre is rounding up the traitors.
Meanwhile Emma Antoinette prepares to go on another spending spree while the commoners are starving for good ST.

We know how it ends for Robespierre.

Meyer did an interview where he revealed that CBS turned down his pitch because they ultimately wanted to invest in long lasting shows rather than one-off mini-series. It's the same reason DISCO was turned from an anthology show conceived by Fuller into an ongoing one.

That may be changing given the success Marvel has had with THEIR limited series (WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, etc.)

I'd certainly love to see Trek attempt a limited event series. Whether that means Meyer's concept will be used is something we'll have to wait and see.

I think the main impediment for the Khan series was always the cost. It’s a lot of money to sink into a series that was only ever going to run for 6 episodes.

With the Volume though, where you can pretty much create any alien planet you want with the click of a button? Maybe not such a costly proposition any more.

Dramatic much? It is a franchise I love, a franchise that I'm not particularly thrilled in the direction it is going... but I have no need for people to lose their jobs over it. There is plenty of good TV out there, beyond that, sports, books, video games, and of course, the Star Trek I already love.

It's kind of sad to go on YouTube and see just how many bought into Doomcock/Midnight's edge false reporting. They're all in such complete denial about what's happening they don't know what to make of it. Suggestions that maybe Kurtzman has blackmail dirt. These people genuinely believe that these shows failed and that CBS is trying to cover things up. They really believe in the rumors of Netlfix laughing CBS executives out of the office. They simply cannot fathom the idea that maybe, just maybe, that these shows were actually successful.

It's actually very reminiscent of a certain group of people reacting to the election results. Not trying to make a political point, only that if people have become very susceptible to false info regarding ANYTHING. As long as they're convinced that a success is actually a lie, they'll believe in anything to appease their emotions.

I can see it all now:

Doomcock: "Rick Berman will be made head of Paramount+ Star Trek production again by August..."
(What too close to some actual real life - and just as insane - conspiracy theories? ;) )

Maybe I didn't read the article carefully enough, but from what I saw it was "Hey Alex! Fans want a Section 31 / Worf / Riker-Troi Family / Captain Sulu / etc.... series!", and Kurtzman responded to each with "We'll see!"...

Which was exactly how he reacted in 2019 when fans said they wanted a Pike series...
