Kurtzman gets 5 1/2 year deal with 3 new shows in the works

The Captain Worf show is a thing? I guess it's a personal victory for Michael Dorn, he's only been pitching a spin off for like a decade. This doesn't sound like his "flies around in a Defiant-class ship and kicks space terrorist ass" pitch though.

I want that Starfleet Academy series! Give me Smallville Trek!

I like Kurtzman so this is good news. Interesting how he has risen up. Started as the lesser known of the 2 writers working on ST09 movie, now he is in charge of the whole franchise.

I am not excited about either S31 or the Academy shows but I will watch them. The Khan Ceti Alpha miniseries wasn’t mentioned so it’s probably dead officially. No big loss, the only interesting part of that was having Meyer as the writer.

It's kind of sad to go on YouTube and see just how many bought into Doomcock/Midnight's edge false reporting. They're all in such complete denial about what's happening they don't know what to make of it. Suggestions that maybe Kurtzman has blackmail dirt. These people genuinely believe that these shows failed and that CBS is trying to cover things up. They really believe in the rumors of Netlfix laughing CBS executives out of the office. They simply cannot fathom the idea that maybe, just maybe, that these shows were actually successful.

It's actually very reminiscent of a certain group of people reacting to the election results. Not trying to make a political point, only that if people have become very susceptible to false info regarding ANYTHING. As long as they're convinced that a success is actually a lie, they'll believe in anything to appease their emotions.

Meyer did an interview where he revealed that CBS turned down his pitch because they ultimately wanted to invest in long lasting shows rather than one-off mini-series. It's the same reason DISCO was turned from an anthology show conceived by Fuller into an ongoing one.

It was just three or four days ago that someone on Twitter told me "everyone knows" Kurtzman's actually "about to be fired" and that I should "try to keep up," and then, when I asked for sources, they blocked me.

I love this timing. I hope that person feels like some sort of Scooby-Doo villain today.

It would be interesting to check if these reality deniers are the same group that also denies things like election results or vaccine safety (or so many other things). Then it's a general denial of everything they simply don't want, and not only focused at shows and movies.

I don’t want to get political either but it wouldn’t surprise me if these 2 groups are the same. I don’t check the trek videos on youtube so not familiar with these people. But it wouldn’t surprise me if they don’t like any character who is not a heterosexual white male and don’t like shows that feature these characters

Hilarious. Every time the Doomcocks "exclusively reveal" yet more terrible news about Kurtzman's impending firing and the cancellation of all Star Trek shows, Alex gets more power and announces a new show. Keep it up guys.

The more I think of it, a Worf sitcom could be amazing. Dorn has great comic timing and the character has always been used in a lot of fun scenes. You'd have to be careful not to just make him the butt of the jokes all the time. Could be a great addition to the Trek slate.

I think it is unwise to generalize.
Correct.

I don't think it's a matter of being in the same political groups or whatever, so much as it illustrates that ANYONE can be susceptible to false information if they're willing to believe that they're being lied to. This happens to people who feel things are not going well in their lives and look for an outlet of sorts.

As Odo once said: "In times of trouble, some people find comfort in hate and fear."

The cognitive dissonance is incredible. It's fine if you don't like the shows, but what I can't understand is the continual claims that these shows are all flops and are losing millions of dollars even as yet more seasons and new series are commissioned.

Yet today's announcement is greeted with, "well I guess CBS likes losing money" as they shovel another $160m in Kurtzman's direction.

Surely at some point they need to take a step back and just accept that these shows are finding an audience, even it it's not to their taste? I guess once you've made a career out of gatekeeping Star Trek, it's in your interests for CBS/Para to keep making shows. A symbiotic relationship. Wait, I meant parasitic.

One thing I've noticed among fandoms is the idea of "objective opinions", where it's not enough to just dislike something, you have to objectively prove it's terrible beyond a reasonable doubt and that it should logically lead to cancellation.

This is why you see calls for Kurtzman, Kathleen Kennedy, and now Kevin Smith regarding his new run on Master of the Universe. They're so confident that these people are failing, that it's bewildering to learn that they achieved success. They're all counting on the idea that they'll all be fired, but it's never gonna happen so long as these franchises attract as much attention. And the irony is that those haters are only ADDING fuel to the fire. They need to realize that the day Trek is cancelled is not when it generates enough outrage but when it elicits apathy. That's ultimately what happened to the end of the Berman era. Fanboys were still griping, of course, but larger audiences stopped caring, and that's when Trek took a notable hiatus.
