Kurtzman gets 5 1/2 year deal with 3 new shows in the works

I sense a disturbance in the Force... As if millions of whiney basement dwellers screamed at once, and we're suddenly silenced..

I myself am not overly enthused, to many JJ Trek influences, but if it's him or nothing, I guess he'll do. Not like it's all crap.

Ms. Lumet met Mr. Kurtzman in 2015. He requested getting together after seeing the film “Rachel Getting Married,” which she wrote. Ms. Lumet said she was surprised that this “sci-fi robot guy in khakis” was interested in meeting her at all.

“All he wanted to do was talk about tiny moments, tiny real moments in movies and tiny moments in television shows, and he was so gentle and willing to listen,” she said. “Usually, the robot guys aren’t willing to listen to anything, and that’s all he wanted to do. It was really cool.”

This line from the original NYT piece cracked me up. Absolutely going to be mentally inserting "the robot guy" after Kurtzman's name from here on out.

Milions? They wish. A couple thousand at most, but very loud. (That toxic faction, I mean. I'm personally not a huge Kurtzman fan myself.)

I’d watch a Worf show – if is Dorn’s idea of a Worf show. I’m not so sure on the Wagner proposal. Seems like something that would be more fitting for Lower Decks.

Actually, now that I've read the whole article... A Worf comedy might actually work for me.

The other two mentioned - Starfleet Academy and Section 31 still on - are not that interesting to me, but will make many people happy, I guess.

Against all initial odds, I'm looking forward to Prodigy and, of course, Picard. Oh, and SNW, so if these all work out for me, I'm good.

"CBS’ David Stapf, who tells the Times:

Anything goes, as long as it can fit into the ‘Star Trek’ ethos of inspiration, optimism and the general idea that humankind is good. So comedy, adult animation, kids’ animation — you name the genre, and there’s probably a ‘Star Trek’ version of it."
Bring on the Trek procedural or Federation politician show!

No, but, in all honesty - like Kurtzman or hate him, the man has expanded the universe into different areas and has been trying new things; some successful and other maybe not as much, but, there's definitely more of a variety of different types Trek now than there was 15-20 years ago.

Expanding a universe isn't just pumping out new shows left and right, but, exploring other areas for the franchise to go. I wasn't initially sold on the idea of Lower Decks and it VERY quickly not only became my favorite of the modern Trek era, but, just one of my favorite Trek shows, period.

Sounds like a fan film producer.........but seriously folks. They have been wanting that damn Academy show since the 70s.......smh.

I feel like Kurtzman’s finally stepping into the role he wanted from the beginning which is just a guy who oversees everything and greenlights projects that seem promising.

He kind of got thrust into the showrunner role on Discovery for a bunch of complicated and unforeseen circumstances, but now he seems much more hands-off with the day-to-day stuff on set.
