Star Trek: Picard forum spoiler policy

For the purposes of discussing Star Trek: Picard in this forum, the spoiler threshold will be reduced to two weeks. That means that plot details for new installments should be spoiler coded for two weeks after an episode first airs in the US, if they're not posted in a spoiler-tagged thread where they can reasonably be expected, such as the discussion thread for a specific episode. After two weeks have passed, plot details can be discussed openly in any thread in the forum.

This lowered threshold only applies to discussing Picard in this forum. When discussing Picard in other forums, please assume that the normal six-month threshold applies, unless the forum's mods have established otherwise.

Likewise, the normal six-month threshold applies to discussing plot details of other current Trek series (e.g., Discovery) in this forum.

When in doubt, please err on the side of common sense and courtesy.

A note about politics and current events...

The showmakers have been open that aspects of the Picard series are meant to reflect the current political climate. Thus, while we usually discourage discussion of politics and other hot topics outside of Miscellaneous and The Neutral Zone, it can be expected that these topics may come up to some extent in relation to how the show is reflecting them. This is fine, so long as the discussion is focused on the show.

But this is not the place to actually debate politics or current affairs. If you're inclined to steer a discussion in that direction, it should indeed be taken to Misc or TNZ. Likewise, unnecessary swipes at specific political figures are discouraged.

A new policy for posting episode threads...

We won't designate who gets to post them...that can remain first come, first serve. However, some consistency would be preferable, so it would be courteous of potential episode thread posters to give somebody who's been doing them the chance to continue posting them.

Going forward, the following two rules will be enforced for new episode threads:

    1) Any that are put up before 2:00 a.m. EST on the day before the episode drops (for Season 1, that would be Wednesday) will be CLOSED.

    2) For consistency, the poll should have a 10-point option, and should initially be set by the thread-poster to end in 0 days. This means that the poll will initially be closed. One of the mods will edit the poll to open it closer to the episode dropping.

Regarding rule #1, we do not need episode threads posted a week early to discuss their trailers. Technically, the next-episode trailer can be discussed as part of the episode that it's included in. Likewise, preview scenes that are shown on the Ready Room can be discussed openly in the thread for that. Either can be discussed openly in the General Discussion thread.

To make sure this comes to the attention of those who've posted episode threads thus far:

    Spoiler Policy update:

It has now been two weeks since the last episode of the season aired, so you no longer have to spoiler-tag/code JACK SHIT in this forum if it pertains to Season 1.

However, please note that the spoiler threshold in other forums is six months, so spoiler protocol needs to be followed out there until September 26.

Please also be mindful of spoilers in thread titles, which can be seen outside this forum.

    Spoiler Policy update:

September 26 has passed, so you should be free to openly discuss Picard Season 1 out there in other forums. Please use this power wisely.
