Knight Rider "Pilot" - Discussion and Spoilers

NBC exec-yes our plan is working! Next week we'll have her strip down again and be covered in oil because she's going into frreezing water! (surface)

Don't tease me unless you can get Deanna Russo to please me.

BTW seeing this tribute video makes me wish the 2008 series had the same kind of magic of the old. The 08 series is all flash and bang.

This tribute video is better.

from my TV ratings thread...

Knight Rider (Series Debut) - 7.30 million & 2.4/7

and my solution...

Let me start with Knight Rider and tell NBC how they could rescue there show, which is now in trouble after 1 episode. Knight Rider will get pounded by DWTS & Bones all year long so move it to 9pm where the FOX comedies won't bother it and it can settle in at 2nd place behind Criminal Minds...FFS you got a reality show with Got Talent so let that take on DWTS you idiots. Apart from that maybe friday nights but NBC got it wrong from the start and that might cost them...so much for a big year.

Moving it to a different day/timeslot would be smart. Dropping all of the sexual innuendo would be nice as well and make it a show about apprehending criminals.

I caught the first episode of KR online several days ago. I honestly couldn't sit through the entire episode. I found it to be awful in nearly every possible way. After about 15 minutes, I had to stop watching.

It was a little obnoxious, but I loved every second of it.

It was a nice attempt to recapture the fun of 80's television and wasn't bogged down by all the angst and realism that modern shows aim for.

I'll be there every week, no matter how few weeks that turns out to be. :techman:

I quite enjoyed the pilot, all 80 mins of it. It had decent storylines, OK dialogue, and a bit of characterisation.

But I've said it before and I'll say it again. You can't have good quality drama in 42 minutes including the start and end credits.

This first episode was frankly pretty awful television, and I doubt it'll last a season. I was really looking forward to it, but it was desperate viewing.

No explanation of the story. Who was the bald guy with the virus in his DNA? What WAS the virus? What did it do?

And I really don't care for this Deanna Russo woman trailing MK around all the time. Whatever happened to ONE MAN can make a difference? I thought that was the whole essence of Knight Rider, not one man and his love sick puppy bimbo.

Why not have both the innuendo and the busting of criminals?

Also, what kind of people don't like looking at a pretty brunette with piercing blue eyes?:wtf:

Well considering how the original show pretty much abandoned that darker premise early on, I never really took that "one man" stuff seriously anyway.

I definitely prefer the simplicity of the original show though, where it was just Michael and KITT most of the time. You really got the sense that the two were real partners and depended heavily on each other -- something that so far is completely missing from the new show.

Now, it's almost like KITT is nothing more than another high tech toy for the Knight Research team to play around with.

I enjoyed the episode last night in a light fun superficial way... thought it was definitely an improvement on the pilot movie. Very fast and action packed. Humorous. Don't really care for the actors, but what ya gonna do.

It's light entertainment, I think some people are taking it too seriously.

Because I'm not 16-years old and get titillated by that sort of thing. That crap gets really old and makes for a poor script.

I have no problem with Deanna, but drop the other women.

That's a good way to put it. Especially with the head dork running simulations to figure out how to extinguish the napalm.

I hope they'll let KITT be on his own more and more as he learns. I could easily get tired, having all those people at Command watching on the car in real time.

He explained to Mike that his DNA contained the solution to an unbreakable encryption code. Not that it mattered; that guy was the McGuffin, and the whole point of this episode was for the female FBI agent to "kill" Mike at the Metro station so that he's forced to change his identity and go around calling himself Michael Knight.

It was okay, except for the pickup truck. What were they THINKING!?!?

"how can we use promotion to its fullest potential on KR?"

Next week

Knight- Wow KITT transforming into a stainless steel GE refridgerator thats got to be your best ability yet

KITT-GE makes great products
