Klingon Helmets in new trailer

According to IMDB there are two Klingon guards and one Klingon prison guard. The guys wearing the helmets may be Klingons.

Yeah -- but the two listed as Klingon Prison Guards are children:
John Bartlebaugh, who is not quite 8 years old, and Cole Fritch whose age isn't listed, but he also looks about 8 years old.

I wonder if this is some kind of IMdB error, or if these kids are really Klingon Prison Guards -- or maybe they are in a flashback scene with young Jimmy Kirk playing "make believe Starfleet Officer", sort of like playing 'Cowboys and Indians' or 'Cops and Robbers'.

Perhaps grown-up Kirk is having this flashback to his childhood days while he is involved in a commando mission to free someone from a real Klingon Prison.

Could be IMDB is not up to date. As for Klingons with helmets and trench coats, it is just JJ's vision of the Klingons.

I'm having a lot of doubts about this film. First Sulu, Chekov and Uhura are officers before Kirk. I don't think so. Then the report about Trans Warp and transporters. I would hope they would preserve basic canon like known technologies and character history. Of course this could all be disinformation to keep the story from leaking out.

^^ Why do you say that Chekov, Sulu, and Uhura are officers before Kirk? Is it because of the Entertainment Weekly article that said black is "space-cadet colors in Abrams' Trekverse", and that means Kirk is still a cadet because he is wearing black?

I think it's possible that Kirk is an Academy instructor at this point in his career, and the command color for Academy instructors is black.

...or is there another reason that you think Chekov and the other were officers before Kirk?

There is another post in this forum which links to an article where the press were shown three segments of the film. The writer says Chekov is the helmsman of the Enterprise, while Spock and Pike say Kirk is a cadet. It also says Kirk meets future Spock(Nimoy) and Scott on Vulcan. It implies some link between transwarp and transporters. It also implied that transporters(the author calls them teleporters) don't yet exist. Maybe I mis-read the article.

Or the reporter is a dunce.

^^ or maybe Kirk is in Command Training School, just like Saavik was in TWoK -- she was an already an Officer (a Lieutentant), but she was back at the Academy to attend command training.

Maybe this is Abrams' way to deal with TOS visual continuity and what was established in the final year of ENTERPRISE without having more human-looking "smoothie" Klingons run around looking sorta unimpressive like Fu Manchu dudes.

We'll just have to wait and see. I agree Star Trek needs a breath of fresh air, but it is too well established to throw most of that history out the window. If they did, it will be difficult to get past the changes. But I'll at least see this film to see if it works for me.

Ah, ok. All this hate/gush battles has me confused as to sarcasm anymore.

:D

Oh, and that poster is wrong, btw.
That isn't even a hover-bike. It clearly has wheels.

The cop has a hover bike... I think kirk does too, they just didn't finish the effects work on all the shot as the wheels on kirks bike seem to go away at one point.
I don't see the point in the trailer when the wheels on Kirk's bike go away. It looks like an ordinary two-wheeled motorcycle to me.

Ah, yes, I wanted to point that out too :) Thanks.

Maybe some Klingon troops in this time period wear intimidating headgear in part to cover the absence of ridges from the mid-22nd century Levonian Flu mutation and Antaak's/Phlox's genetic experiments, which also makes it easier to use Klingon extras in the movie since only some will remove their helmets, necessitating more makeup.

I'm guessing that they are Klingons. Just look at the design on the forehead of the helmet. This photo looks gangsta.

Maybe Klingons naturally have human-like foreheads, but they later got into body modding. These photos creep me out--so I thought I'd share. :p

And maybe the helmets have ridges since some of the soldiers inside don't. Cosmetic armor ridges that help take a little of the stigma of being smooth-headed away for those who want them.

That is not a droid or a robot.
Star Trek never, ever had any space-battles, no.
Have you looked at those white corridors in TOS?
Yeah, never have we seen any anti-grave vehicles in Trek.

Um, just to clarify, you hating or liking the new trailer?:vulcan:

I actually didn't mind the trailer -- wasn't so enthused about it either. I think a lot of it looks cool... but I hope there is more than just cool looks to this new "vision" of Trek.

And in my humble opinion, Abrams and Orci & Kurtzman have a solid track record for making things that looks slick and cool (The Island, Transformers, Fringe, MI3) but in the end are kind of empty and lacking. I don't want Trek to suffer that fate.
That's mean to say Abrams was involved in that catastrophe of a movie when he wasn't.

Since this movie, for the most part, is not canon, we shouldn't assume anything. Like they said in the earlier post, this is JJ's interpretation of Klingons. Why couldn't a Klingon Soldier wear a helmet? Why should we assume that the virus concept is even concidered for this movie? After all, they had to INVENT an explanation for the fact that this same thing happened when the Klingons got their ridges in the first place in TMP. It made them look more intimidating! This is just another example of someone's take on what a Klingon is. Funny how no one complains that the Romulans are bald and tattooed, yet the fine details of Klingon head and garb are picked apart. Wonder what people would say if JJ made the Gorn eight inches tall and look more like Gecko's? :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

Regarding the possibility of Vulcan being destroyed, does anyone think that will actually happen? Would Abrams really blow up Vulcan?

Of course not... Eh, at least, I don't think he would. It's gotta be some kind of temporal screw up which Spock will, just in the, ta-da, nick of time, return and [eventually] circumvent. :scream: Prays.
