Klingon head jobs

So the ridged version of the Klingon head came on the scene with TMP and has remained ever since...so what is the final verdict on them???

I still think the best modern Klingon make-up was in THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY, and more to the point, Chang's.

I think I read somewhere that Plummer asked for the lighter version of the make-up. Whatever the reason, I think the way they toned down the 'turtle head' look that Worf and others had was far better because it allowed the actor's ability to come through better. When you see Plummer in that make-up, you know its Plummer. If you see real pictures of Dorn, or others, you'd never know it was them under the make-up most of the time. In fact, I think Dorn looks better in Undiscovered Country than he ever did at any other time..

What do some of you think? Overall, did you like the forehead version, or the TOS version. I liked Chang's make-up cause it looked like a mediated version of the two..

I've always preferred the Klingons as depicted in the TOS films both in terms of characterization and the "lighter" ridge makeup. The TNG Klingon ridges always struck me as being excessive.

I liked Gowron and Martok just fine. But I thought the make up was too much. Had they scaled it back to resemble the Plummer style I thought that would have been better..I mean, Plummer looked both EPIC and MENACING at the same time...IMO

The TOS version was better than the Gorn. However, the TMP Klingons were the best I've seen. I agree with all the comments about not being so over-the-top as to obscure the acting. Plummer's performance is by far the best Klingon to date.
Dorn's make-up did change over the course of the series, though.

I actually think they got sloppy with Worf's make-up. You can clearly see the where it was applied to his head on the sides. Maybe this was bad lighting, but for whatever reason, I think they got sloppy with him.

My point about Chang is that it seemed the Klingon make-up was less, but yet had its own characteristics, so as to look Klingon and yet allowed Plummer to be scene. I never got that with Dorn. I think if Dorn walked down the street only 1 out of 10 would recognize him. I think anyone can watch UNDISCOVERED COUNTY and still see Plummer...

According to Dorn, eleven seasons of ST (and five movies) worth of makeup glue has permanently affected his skin over his temples.

Wow. That happened to any of the others we know went through a lot of makeup glue?

I like the TNG Klingons. I dislike the ones in VI 'cause they look to...generic. I also don't really like the TOS version, though I know it was the best they could afford at the time. Still, if you enjoy fanwanking about it, you can claim the VI Klingons are a intermediary stage between ridgeless Klingons infected with the Augment virus and the cured Klingons. :P

Keep in mind, the Klingons and Klingon-focused episodes utterly bore me. The whole "HONOR" thing wears really, really thin the gazillionth time a Klingon has to restore his family honor. I prefer the portrayl of TOS.

Such as Vaughn Armstrong, who AFAIK has played characters from eight different Trek races.

I'd wonder about Armin Shimerman, Marc Alaimo, and Andrew Robinson, myself...that those guys had to go through a LOT of makeup work.

Yeah, but did anyone other than Dorn have to go through eleven full seasons in makeup? Plus four TNG films and his guest spot in STVI?

Point taken..but 7 years of Quark makeup equals 11 years of Klingon make...though we will never really know...but you can kind of see Dorn when you see Worf..I wouldn't have recognized Shimmerman if I hadn't seen him in BUffy one time if I had met him on the street..
