Kirk/William Shatner Apprecation Thread

Chris Pine you think is a moron for what he did to your Kirk ah well things and people don't please some canonists and purists. Is that how I see it you may not like Chris Pine for what he did but can opinions differ on this?

^^ I didn't like Pine's Kirk. But then Pine's Kirk is not what Shatner's Kirk was like in his youth in the TOS continuity.

Please read the original post again.

USS Bones did not say "Chris Pine is a moron for what he did to Kirk". He said "The character they asked Chris Pine to play was a moron." There's a big difference.

Today's episode at lunchtime was "A Taste of Armageddon." Jim's not going to let Mea 3 go into the disintegration chamber. Nice arms.

That's what we have to believe to cover up the writers' ineptitude in writing the Kirk character. Or maybe there just isn't room in today's entertainment for a hero like Shatner-Kirk.

Furthermore, imagine the film wasn't called Star Trek and the character wasn't called Kirk. Would anyone here still rave about him then?

Pardon me; this got stuck at the bottom of the previous page, and it's too nice to let languish.

^ He's lovely! The way he's holding her and looking so intensely into her eyes is killer. Kirk's intensity is what he's got going for him, IMO. It can drill right into you.

Yeah that was true. Pine's Kirk, at first was nothing like the orginal, but afterall its a new timeline as well. So maybe in the next movie Pine's Kirk, might become more like the orginal. You could say during the later part of the movie, we see Pine's Kirk, charcter change from a moron to being a real leader. Anyways, I'm curious to know in the next movie how much his charcter has changed since the last movie.

Do you really want him to be totally like Shatner's Kirk I think he made it his own Kirk in my opinion you may not like Chris Pine but I sure do:)

I acually thought Chris Pine was amanzing as Kirk, even though his charcter was at first a moron, but he still was great!Besides,no I don't want Chris to inperstanite Shatner, because he is different.I'm sorry if misintepted about Chris Pines Kirk.It was just a little misunderstanding.Anyways,I think they are both great as Kirk as I think Nimoy & Quinto is amazing as Spock. So I do love both Shatner and Pine as I love Nimoy and Quinto.I actually have posters of them,as well the action figures and so on of them.If I didn't like them,I wouldn't get them.Anyways,I have ment both Spock's and the orginal Kirk.I wouldn't mind meeting Pine if he came to a convetion like the others did.But I don't know if he does that kind of thing,I heard that he don't.But if he did ,I would difentaly would love to meet him.I probley be just as nervous meeting him like I did when I ment Quinto.

As a kid, I wanted to be Kirk.

Ditto. I still want to be an intergalactic, larger-than-life hero, come to think of it! ... Bit I'm afraid I'm going to have to settle for just plain larger. *sigh*

Chris Pine: ... I have to tell you, the "buckle up" bit brought it down a notch. Not quite Kirk-like, IMO

But "don't forget where we parked" is more Kirk-like? *wink* (As if either actor wrote the lines *grin*)

He will get there even though Chris isn't Shatner I still think Chris did a fine job with creating a young James T Kirk what do you think?

StarTrekRcks, this isn't meant to be a shot against you but think about this...

What if there was a character you loved growing up as a little girl who you thought had some admirable qualities and then as you grew up some aspects of the character which were easy to parody became the 'stereotype', the 'checklist' for said character?

Now imagine that after awhile, they decided to make a new show or movie about your favorite character. You knew what the character was about but then when you go see this new interpretation it's based on the stereotypes instead of the actual character.

How would you feel?

As fans of Shatner's Kirk, the impression we got of Kirk was a strong confident leader with enough machismo and charm to spare for a whole starship. The stereotype was a skirt-chasing overly confident person.

The Kirk in the 2009 edition played more like the stereotype than the actual character we as fans had seen throughout TOS's run.

It's not that we think PINE was the reason for this disappointing interpretation but rather what JJ Abrams and his writers, Orci and Kurtzman, gave Pine to work with, which wasn't in our opinion, all that like the 'real' Captain.
