Kirk/William Shatner Apprecation Thread

My favorite uniform. In fact, I own a pretty good--damn near screen accurate--replica of it.

I saw a site selling one of those. Thought about getting one. Think I could carry it off.

And as is well-known, Shatner is the king of kings. Thought I'd just mention my agreement.

Rob, that sounds like the best plane ride ever.

It was. I've been watching William Shatner (Kirk) for most of my life, like most of you. I mean, gee, the guy has been around longer than I've been alive.

It was an awkward first ten minutes. I didn't want to invade his privacy, but he must of known I knew who he was. After we took off he turned to me and said that he was indeed William Shatner (this was all in whisper at first). I told him I knew who he was but didn't want to bug him. Then, from there, we just started talking and four hours later we were landing.

Get this, on the same flight, two seats back? Jamie Lee Curtis. But I'm glad fate put me with Captain Kirk.

Cool; it's also my favorite. He looks good in that wrap style and color.

Today's episode at lunch was "Space Seed," with this uniform (courtesy of Trek Core):

Rob

Jamie Lee who?

Anyway, you lucky dog! Was his conversational style anything like on Raw Nerve? He seems to have this real easy-going conversational manner going by the episodes I've seen.

Yeah, it was. What amazed me was that I totally didn't acknowledge who he was..OH I WANTED TO!!! But, while in the navy, I got to meet several hot shot stars and politicans and learned that they really appreciated their privacy.

So, I sat down next to him, and just tried not to burst with joy. The plane took off, and then he whispers to me that he was Williams Shatner. I told him i knew, but I wasn't going to reveal that to anyone. Then he smiled, with that bill shatner smile, and said "Don't you think they know already." I laughed softly.

Then we started talking about life, my have being in the navy, and his respect he had for the military. He said he wasn't really in support of our being there but he respected us for goiing; which I agreed with him. I had retired just a year early afte 20 years.

Then we just started talking about star trek, and I told him that i actually thought TREK V was good and that I "got the message" about god being inside of us..ect. Then he goes on and tells me aspects of the story that had changed over the several rewrites. After hearing him go on about it i really think he believed then, and this was only a couple years ago so years and years after V came out, that he had the makings of a dramatic movie that got gutted for various reasons.

Then we talked about my dids; my son had just turned 2 yrs old and he was very cool with that. And we just went on from there.

He was down to earth, and all of that stuff I had read about him (the bad stuff you read from time to time) wasn't there at all. No arrogance...just a normal 70ish old man.

Rob

Thanks for that, Rob.

I have always felt that his nuanced performance was apparent right from the start, even in the first episodes, but it takes more than one viewing to realize this because it is so subtle sometimes.

He wasn't a icon in the first episode but each episode William Shatner's performance grew better and better, what do you think is that true?

Rob, it sounds like you got treated to some of that legendary Shatner intensity.

If Henry Rollins thinks you're intense...you're reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally intense!

Shatner's Kirk was really, I think, from another time. I actually think he grew as an actor and was actually a better actor on BOSTON LEGAL. On that show he was usally a bafoon because Denny's issues, but when Shatner had to deliver he did. The episode with the flashbacks of younger shatner and the older shatner realizing that he was responsible of the way that man turned out, after losing his father, was a great episode...

Shatner did win two emmy's for Boston Legal. That alone, for me, is proof that the guy has talent, no matter what some of his TOS co-stars believe, or even his nay-sayers on this site.

In my oppion I think he got better as the show grew.I think one his best in TOS episodes was The City Of The Edge Of Forever.I thought his acting was absoutly amanzing in that episode.I thought he was great in the others but I thought that one just the very best besides Trouble with Tribbles.

That's amazing. There aren't many people I'd rather meet than Shatner.

This. I will never forget Oct. 13, 1976, when he did his one-man show at our local college. Awesome, though he didn't do autographs at the time, which disappointed the 11-year-old me. (my mother is still pissed about that!)

Good night, Jeri! :D Now that's acting with your eyes. Lovely.

I've never had a beef with Shatner. Yeah, he's done stuff Im not crazy about or interested in but what actor hasn't? And he has an offbeat sense of humour that not everyone gets. Some people don't like or get along with him? So tell me something new particularly in the entertainment industry.

In my books Shatner IS Kirk and Chris Pine is a nobody punk playing pretend with zilch credibility.

Yes, thank you. Especially Le Shat vs Pine. I don't expect Pine to have Le Shat's longevity; not by a longshot.

What's with all the dislike for the young captain Kirk Chris Pine's he was brilliant in Star Trek anyway your opinion may differ.

Granted he didn't try to channel Shatner. Pine may be a decent actor, but I hated his portrayal of Kirk because he made him a dislikable character.
