Kirk Or Scotty

It is well known among the fans that the only real love of Kirk's life was the Enterprise, and because of that, he could not have a committed relationship with a woman to save his life.

But I think what people are missing is that he might have a rival. I think there is the possibility that there is one man who could be in love with her even more than Kirk.

That man is Scotty.

So you see, what we have here is not just the triangle of three good friends with kirk Spock, and McCoy, we have the love triangle between Scotty, kirk and the Enterprise.

I think Scotty's love could rival Kirk's.

Scotty knew her inside and out and was very intimate with how she worked from working on her engines for so many years. in fact he hated the excelsior so much and wanted to see her brought back to life.

Kirk really wasn't that intimate and didn't know her all that well.

In a sense it really was Scotty who took care of when she needed it.

And it was Scotty who fought for her honor when that Klingon was insulting her to no end in that bar. Not even kirk would fight for her honor.

So, and argument could be made that Scotty loved her more than Kirk. While Kirk did love her, sometimes it almost seemed like she was no more than an end for him to use.

So it seems to me anyway.

Kirk captained the Enterprise, Scotty maintained her. Scotty loved his machines and wasn´t the guy for command. So everybody had the right job. IMO Kirk loved Enterprise and being in command. Scotty loved the ship including the machines and not so much command. They loved her both, but in a different way.

Interesting too, that Scott was sometimes written as an impulsive man of action when in a potentially dangerous landing party situation. He's ready to physically attack Apollo, and is the first who wants to physically punch the Earps after Chekov''s unfortunate accident.

Don´t forget the Tribble situation when "his" Enterprise is offended by the Klingons. Scotty was the first to plunge himself in the following brawl.

I think you're missing the point. When Kirk says he loves his "ship"—

And nothing is more important than my ship.
—Kirk, "Court Martial"

—he's talking about the whole package, crew included. Outside of that, it is just a machine. Also consider his reaction to the M5 and the removal of most of his crew.
