Please, you think the Ent-D could've destroyed that Borg ship? Q brought them there to show them something beyond what they were capable of. You're just silly biased making up stuff that isn't there.
^^ Well, if Kirk had finished off the cube, what then? Would Q have taken them back, or would Kirk have been too "badass" to ask for help? So they start to fly back, only to have another cube (or more) intercept them...
As far as this Kirk vs Picard thing, I like both characters, for different reasons.
Also remember, Kirk never carried anyone's luggage.
He carried his own luggage (you don't remember the suitcase from THIS SIDE OF PARADISE?)

If you go back and re-watch the episode, Picard had the Borg cube on the ropes. We'll never know if the Enterprise-D could've finished the job because Picard called off the attack to 'discuss options'.
They blew a hole out of it and damaged their life support systems. But likely the Borg wouldn't have been destroyed by the attack, and still adapted during the barrage to counter it. Heck not ceasing the attack likely would've just made them adapt faster when they realized the barrage wouldn't cease. Them being that easily destroyed wouldn't have served Q's reasoning, he'd have made sure they fought a foe they couldn't beat.
"Endless" conferences? Picard held ONE when the attacker was thought defeated, which was perfectly reasonable. Kirk held plenty of conferences as well, just as "endless".
As time passes and old trekkies die off, this will continue to be the case. Even with the new effects, people will base opinions on current TV and movie standards. The model and space opticals might be up to date, but the lighting, acting styles and music are not the same as they do it today. The real attraction of Trek will be ignored in favor of insufficient eye and ear candy. People forget.
.
No we can't let this happen! I'm sure there are plenty of you reproducing on this board...so it must be a priority to influence/brainwash...whatever, your children and nieces and nephews so they can carry on the torch when we're all dead. I know I'm doing my part with my nephews !!
It's also an idea Picard thought of
Like I said, the plot would've had the ship still not destroyed, since that was part of what Q was doing: showing them an enemy they couldn't beat.
Kirk would've gone through the exact same thing as Picard except I'm not sure he would've been able to suck up his pride and ask Q for help (which means he'd have gottene everyone killed).
I seem to recall Kirk sucking up some pride on a planet named 'Organia'...

Very true! To tell you the truth, I forgot about that.

Geez, I mentioned this in the third post of the thread.
Piccard is more ethical than kirk, but still kirk is good.

I find it hard to accept that holding up 'keeping your hands clean' while advocating genocide 'just 'cause a civilization doesn't have warp yet' equates to ethics in any way, shape, or form. In a lot of ways, Picard was a unethical monster, the worst product a UN-like Federation, though damn if he didn't keep his hands 'clean'.
