Kira's undershirt

It is pretty funny, I have to say. Oh, well - at least it makes for a change.

Ooh, fashion is controversial!

Why do her pants have to go up so far? It makes her look frumpy, and shes far from it. I hated that uniform!

Wow kitsune, this may be the first major disagreement we have! I can't stand that shirt! She actually wore it constantly in other episodes - it was her standard 'casual wear' when she was out of uniform and it annoyed the hell out me, both because I thought it was an ugly design, and I hated the fact that it was the only thing she ever wore other than a uniform. I figured even in the 24th century women would still have fairly extensive wardrobes. I guess Kira was just too much of a workaholic to think about fashion. :p

Yeah, that's all wrong. that white thing is what goes under her uniform jacket. Presumably, she wears it because it's more comfortable than the whole uniform, or because it is cooler when doing heavy labor.

You wouldn't expect a militia uniform to be "pretty".

Kira does get a pretty expansive wardrobe. She wears different clothes when rescuing Li Nalas, for instance.. and when visiting Bariel at the monastery.

She wears different clothes in Past Tense when travelling around with O'Brien (who also gets new clothes). pretty sure she had different clothes when impersonating Emony Dax during the Dajarah ritual.

Throughout the series, she gets a lot of clothing changes. She wears everything from a robin hood medival dress to vedek's robes to a starfleet uniform.

She also gets her standard uniform changed half way through, and gets some pregnancy gear.

And that's not even including intendant Kira.

Late to this discussion... I tend to agree that it was meant to be the equivalent of an "alien t-shirt/tank top."

Now, in-universe, I would not think that this specific shirt was necessarily a part of the uniform, but more akin to how men (and some women) will tend to wear a t-shirt under their uniform/collared shirt. I doubt if we looked in every Bajoran milita officer's closet we would find that very shirt. Then again, we might. ;)

This is quite the debate we have going here. I'm glad at least some people are on my side thinking it's casual wear and not part of the uniform. I just can't see a garment like that being mass produced as a part of military attire, even given the traditionally odd fashion choices in the future universe of Star Trek. And your comment about what's "pretty" reinforces my point. It's too "pretty" (I don't mean I think it is, but it seems made to be seen that way) to be military wear...a military uniform should be generic-looking.

I'm not going to dismiss your post as flat out wrong as you did mine, but I can get a small measure of revenge for that diss by nitpicking this one point I've quoted above - Kira wasn't Emony during the Zhian'tara ritual. Leeta was Emony. Kira was Leela. :p I swear I'm not usually this petty.

I've always liked that shirt as part of Kira's uniform.

Though she does look better in the Starfleet Uniform in Season 7.

My bad, I got my "past Dax lives" switched around.

It's obvious that the white shirt "thing" is part of Kira's uniform.

Remember when Ensign Ro somehow magically removed her spandex TNG uniform top and it was suddenly a jacket, and then beneath it was that grey starfleet tank top (complete with duplicate communicator)?

This is the same thing, except the uniform actually does have a jacket.

As for the undershirts in a uniform from a religious society.. have you seen the military uniforms of Vatican City? Aside from which, since they are replicated it would be easy to produce any kind of shirt you wanted to.

I suppose now we can get into an argument about Bajor's limited resources post-Occupation and why you would want to waste replicator resources making fancy tank tops, but... ;)

I like the shirt. I agree, it looks like it should be casual wear rather than part of a uniform, but I like the top. The high-waisted pants, however, are what's really horrible.

As for Bajor vs. Vatican City - I'd expect Bajoran uniforms to be slightly more functional, given that they've got a lot more in the way of real combat duty. Even the Swiss Guard have several uniform styles that are a lot less fancy than the traditional ceremonial get-up that they use when they expect to do training and such.

(And, three paragraphs of debate later, part of me is sitting here going: "It's just a shirt! It's just a shirt!" :D)
