Kira's completely unlikeable

Ghost Bones

Captain
Captain
Kira was a right bitch. With a man's haircut. Right up there in the unlikeability stakes with The Shitsko himself. Anyone agree?

Not at all, I'm afraid. In fact I'd go so far as to say she's one of the better female characters I've seen on TV. Any examples you can think of to cite her bitchiness?

Now Jadzia? There's a character I didn't care for.

Nope, Kira was awesome. Sure, she got bitchy at times, but, it never worked against my enjoyment of the character, and other than at the very beginning when she had an understandable chip on her shoulder, she typically had good reasons for when that side of her came out

Jadzia wasn't particularly great, you're right. Always smugging it around and going on about how Curzon loved a shag. But she did have the quality of being completely gorgeous rather than being a butch lezza with stupid shoulderpads. Kira was always whinging about the occupation and generally being an arsehole. As well as slagging about with every Tom, Dick, and Vedek.

i really like kira (dax i really dislike) - i do agree with the haircut, i wish they would of kept her hair as it was in the pilot, i think it was an attempt to make her more militaristic, bajoran militia and all, but she looks so much better with longer hair

My only post in this thread:

People, don't go for it again so soon. Allow obvious baiting to pass into the night. :)

Judging from your avatar, I wouldn't think a bitchy female would be someing you'd complain about... quite the contrary. Given the body of many of your historical posts (pre-loss of your old profile).

It seems to me that you almost worship certain bitchy female characters across many SF series' and hate others without any logical rhyme or reason.

Otherwise, this thread is just straight up trolling.

She was being a right twat at the beginning of Defiant, which rather sexistly was only alleviated once Riker gave her a sound riking. And when Dukat declared the Cardies had joined the Dominion and she gave orders to fire (helpfully avoided by them being out of range). Apparently it escaped the nasty vindictive bitch's notice that despite this turn of events, they still weren't actually at war.
This topic isn't exactly a high point in my TrekBBS experience.
Give it time.

I will elaborate that DS9 is still very much my favourite Trek series and a big favourite in general (maybe still a top 5 TV show), but thank goodness there were genuinely god chracters in O'Brien, Bashir, Odo and Quark to offset Sisko, Kira, Jadzia and even Worf.

Kira was a great character. Probably in the top 3 best on the show. I love seeing how she changes as the show goes on when I watch it!

To elaborate a bit more, I think I'm a lot off with the thread title even in my own view. She got better towards the end, a lot better in fact. Once she shacked up with Odo she softened considerably. And got a cute haircut in that last season. But before that, she seemed to be an unusual sort of mary sue figure for Uncle Ira. The bit in The Darkness and the Light (I think that's what it's called) where she's all like "Too damn right you got your fucking face burnt off! Cardie scum!" and ISB's all like "How can you argue with that? Phwoar!". It's a bit off for me. Now I'm not sure I think she's a bad character as such, but she is an unlikeable one for me, and that wasn't represented in the way other characters were towards her. If I had to work with that bitch, I wouldn't hang out with her in Quark's. In fact, if I was Quark I'd have barred her, because she wasn't particularly nice to him either.

Kira was one of best female characters on TV. She's in top 5 female Sci-Fi heroines for sure.

i like her because she's a bitch. she's so bitchtacular that she owns every scene. and my heart <3

... always whining.... and generally being an arsehole.

So..............
who are we talking about here? Are we ironically expanding the discussion beyond the realm of fictional characters?

Kira got on my nerves from time to time, but -for me- that happened with more than one Trek character. Yet I still liked her (and the others). I appreciate passionate, assertive females, even if a little bitchiness is part of the mix. I have some friends and relatives out here in the real world that can be a little bitchy from at times, but I still count them as people I enjoy.

Those weren't shoulder pads. Those were the chips on her shoulders. :p
