Kinder eggs!

I'd offer to help you figure this out but Kinder Eggs are banned in the US and you can get hit with heavy fines for trying to import them.

God bless America.

I'm sure many countries have what some would consider stupid laws

Well, to be fair, the law in this case came about because kids were choking on the toys that came inside these eggs.

And to be fair, that sounds like a perfectly reasonable precaution.

I can´t see anybody choking on a "Kinder Überarschung" (which is their german name)...not even if someone tried biting into it.

The capsule inside the choclate is made of a non-stick material. And the choclate itself is molded in such a way that it comes apart if you try biting into it which reveals the capsule right away. Its been available in Germany since I can remember...and believe me...mothers here tend to be overly careful... so if there had been even ONE incident involving somebody choking on those eggs...the outcry would have been huge and the eggs off the market. Products for kids have been pulled off the market for minor stuff...

Oh and if you REALLY want an egg with a figure in it...then you got to buy it in a shop...and use the "shake and listen" method. There is a specific sound if there´s a figure in it...what you want to listen for is a kind of dry "chuck, chuck, chuck"-sound. No "rattling" should be audible.

*whispers at Freddy* ahem.. it's "Kinder-Überraschung" not Überarschung. The first translates as children's surprise while the latter would literally equal a children's over-ass-ing... :D

Nacelle, I am sorry you suffered a disappointment. Yes, it's true, there is indeed only one theme figurine in every 7th egg (on average). However, the other 6 are imho often a good deal cooler. They contain miniature toys and a little instruction on how to assemble them. That's always been much more fun for me than the immobile and readily assembled figurines, like the hippos. I'm sure you'll find lots of kids in your family or neighbourhood who'll love to have them. Or maybe you'll get addicted yourself ;)

If you're just looking for a special series or a particular figurine, try ebay. There are also collectors' websites where you can trade, buy or sell all kinds of Kinderüberraschung-toys. If you need any help with the language (these translation programmes have an uncanny tendency to always pick the most wrong one of several possible meanings) I'll be happy to be of assistance :)
I can also wholeheartedly recommend this online dictionary: http://dict.leo.org/ende/index_en.html It does not offer translations of whole sentences but if you're looking for a single word, this is the best site currently online.

Sorry, if my request for proof was confusing. I'll clarify. The topic of this thread is the Kinder Egg, so when I wondered if there is any proof whatsoever of "this," by "this" I naturally meant the boldfaced part of your post below.

Hmmm I wonder if its to do with kinder eggs being some serious competition to other chocolate companies.
Like Cadbury is such a threat to Hershey that Hershey is trying to get Cadbury banned from being sold in the US! No toys in Cadbury chocolate.

Hmmm, I wonder if there is any credible proof of this whatsoever. Just a thought.

Unless one can actually connect the dots (which the article you linked to doesn't begin to), whatever's going on with Hershey vs Cadbury has nothing to do with the US ban on Kinder Egg imports.

There's no connection. Also, for better or worse Hershey has the license to manufacture and distribute Cadbury chocolate in the United States - so that's undoubtedly a dick move on their part (IMO), but they're not "trying to get Cadbury banned from being sold in the US."

The voice of reason.

When I was a kid, I liked the Kinder eggs that had those tiny toys you had to put together yourself. Always was disappointed if there was some stupid figurine inside.

Nowadays I like to treat myself with Mignon eggs on Easter. They are real eggshells filled with chocolate:

Update: Well due to to what has been said about 7th egg issue i have regretfully sent them back to amazon for a refund.
Very disappointing but since i cant eat the chocolate and my plan was to try to get as many sets of penguins figures as possible then sell a few of them, but obviously not going to happen if theres 1 or less than 1 set in a case of 72 eggs!
I went digging through the sellers feedback on amazon and found one several pages back that said they opened 20 eggs and didnt find a single penguin so i guess that more than confirms it.

I still want the figures but i did want the fun of opening eggs as well. I havent done that since i was little!

Anyway i searched on ebay and couldnt find any. Then i had the idea to go search german ebay and found a few sellers selling sets and individual figures so will get them from one that ships to the uk.

No idea why they didnt come up in the ebay uk search. I had it set to worldwide! Weird.

Those mignon eggs look fascinating. I wonder how they get the chocolate inside a real egg shell!

Cut a hole in the egg, remove the filling, sterilize, fill with chocolate and other fillings, and then plug the hole with sugar.

I swear to god I thought you were joking until I looked it up. So you can teach your child to shoot a gun, not give them their vaccinations, but give them a chocolate egg, and you're endangering them.

"God Bless America" indeed!
There's more risk of indigestion from the "chocolate" than from choking on the toys. The eggs themselves taste terrible.

Ehm, indigestion has nothing to do with the taste of someting...
BTW. now i want some Kinder chocolate, either eggs or their small bars...

The reason they taste terrible is because there's not a lot in them ingredient-wise that bears much resemblance to actual chocolate. It's like trying to eat thin, chocolate-flavored plastic.

Wow, tell us how you really feel! ;)
I think plenty of people disagree with your take on the taste of Kinder chocolate (or the eggs in particular). I quite like it, too. The taste is more of a milk&chocolate mix of course so if you're looking for pure chocolate taste you're looking in all the wrong places.

heehee, great minds =)

Try not only "Kinderüberraschung" or "Überraschungsei" but also "Ü-Ei" or "Ü-Ei Figuren" or "Ü-Ei Figur" as search parameters. It should give you a maximum of results on German ebay :)
The latter keyword returns almost 9000 results: http://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=%C3%9C-Ei+figuren&_dcat=8894&Produktart=Figur&rt=nc
you can narrow the search down by year on the top left menu ("Erscheinungsjahr")

The chocolate in them is unique, here in the uk you can get packets of just the chocolate bars of it individually wrapped in I think 16 and 32 options. Its the kind of chocolate you have one small bar and then another and another...

It's not as if the plastic containers in which the toys are placed fall apart easily, either. It's taken brute strength at times to open those things. The US ban makes no sense.
