Killing Kirk was the stupidest move ever made!

Well that's the problem when you don't know when to stop. Kirk's story was well finished in TUC, and it was more than satisfactory.

That's actually a pretty good description of the Berman/Braga style - they didn't know when to stop! :)

Not that I disagree with you... but who are we to debate the infallability of canon? ;)

We the fans of Star Trek, in order to be less of a community of nitpicking jerks, establish fanon, insure our fan fictions, provide for the common trekkie, promote general discussions and secure the blessings of Roddenberry, do establish hereby that canon is neither infallable, nor better than non-canon, and can be ignored if one so wishes.

:p ;)

It's actually a pretty good description of anything here. I myself find the new movie horrible, for example. Not necessary in the first place, and then not good in my opinion.

Exactly. If only one of them had ever heard the saying quit while you're ahead, many modern Trek catastrophes would have been avoided.

I didn't have a problem killing Kirk, but I don't think any of the TOS people should have been in Generations. I am not sure why they felt the needed to have a bridge between the two shows when TNG had already finished its highly successful run. They did that at the end of part 1 of Encounter at Farpoint already.

Kirk and Picard finally meeting was the big selling point of Generations. If they hadn't done it, everybody would be complaining about how they missed a golden opportunity to bring the two captains together.

Quit while you're ahead...wise words.

I didn't hate that the franchise killed Kirk...I was not thrilled when I heard abouit it but I was not 100% against the idea. There could've been several interesting and meaningful possibilities if well done. None of which were explored in Generations.

So what I actually hate is the lame way the filmmakers did it, and I hate that Kir's Death was in such a mediocre movie. Kirk deserved better, Picard deserved better, and we deserved better.

(And yes, I'm an old timer who saw TOS TV premier way back when. I hate TUC too but I like XI.))

It was a weak death. If you're going to have Kirk die he should really be the focus of the movie and not just be in 1/3 of it.

I think everyone knows that, but the dissatisfaction by some might be in the way it all played out.

Not everyone knows that, because I was replying to the message directly above mine that said they shouldn't have had any TOS characters in Generations.
