Killing Data in nemesis fell flat.

I don't see your point. Are you disagreeing that Data is TNG's version of Spock?
Yes, in "Unificatuon" it was just described how perfectly how "opposite" they were. One striving for "humanity" and one trying to aleviate it in himself.....By that time Spock had learned how to "bunch" that all together, but fore and foremost he was still 100% vulcan...;)

I think the real difference is that Data blurts everything that comes to his mind and Spock tries to hide it. Both of them ended up more human in the end, and that even comes across in Unification with the "cowboy diplomacy" bits. The Data character was actually partly based on the Vulcan science officer who was to replace Spock in TMP if Leonard Nimoy wasn't available. There's even a part in Farpoint where McCoy comments on how much Data reminds him of a Vulcan.

Because Data states his exact age,...something "Admiral" McCoy states that it doesn't bother him...(BUT due too De's portrayal he does...) reminds him of a "certain" vulcan. But yet in the end Data even with his emotion chip, is nowhere close as Spock

Data's death totally took me and my family by suprise. Didn't see it coming. Lots of "No!", "They didn't!", "Nah, he beamed back...", "They wouldn't!", "OMG they actually killed him!" stuff.

Ah, those days before I read spoilers on the internet...

Well, B-4 was unnecessary to begin with. Data's death was unnecessary also. Wouldn't a well placed overloading phaser also destroy the weapon? Data could have slapped that stupid little transporter thing on Picard and then hugged him, beaming both of them out. I didn't find Data's death sad because it a) had an obvious out and 2) it clear this was just following the Khan template. Paint by Numbers Trek.

Spock's death actually worked for a number of reasons; he had his goodbye with Kirk; Kirk was shattered; Spock's death was part of his character growth. In fact, it was part of Kirk's as well. There was some very rich character development there, something Nemesis didn't grasp.

Was it sad? Nah, not for me. I had no doubt there would be another Star Trek movie and Spock would be brought back. There wasn't anything official to justify that, just a bunch of TV death cheats I sat through all my life. That's back when I was too young to be in the loop with the makings of Trek II and had no idea they never intended to do a third film, let alone a whole series. The cluelessness of youth made movies a lot more fun.

I guess the portable transporter only had enough power for one person. I felt it would have been better to have Picard save Data instead of the other way around. It would have stung harder and left Riker in command. The introduction of B4 was bizarre. As I recall, Lore was the only other Soong android located. It would have made more sense to have Lore be reassembled since he truly hated Data and Picard. I believe that had another TNG film be made, Data would return. the only way to do that would be through B4. Throughout the series, Data tried to show how he was a unique sensient lifeform. By showing Soong androids scattered all over, it cheapened Data's character.

The good parts of the film were Riker and Deanna getting married and seeing the TNG crew in another film. I just feel that the TNG films have eroded the legacy of the series. Cobra

As I recall, Lore was the only other Soong android located.

We learned in "Inheritance" that Juliana Tainer knew of three prototypes who preceded Lore. (In the novel "Immortal Coil", it was shown that Data had returned to the colony world where he was first activated and retrieved them, and now keeps them in his lab on the starship.) The B-4 ("Before") was originally scripted as B-9 ("Benign"), but changed while preserving the joke about Soong referred to in the script, and coincidentally the #4 works better than #9.

It would have made more sense to have Lore be reassembled since he truly hated Data and Picard.
And yet reassembling Lore makes no sense.

I believe that had another TNG film be made, Data would return.
Certainly, Spiner had developed what he felt was a clever way to jump bak into the role at some point. But, had a next film gone with keeping the B-4, he could have chosen himself a new face mold and voice modulation and reinvented himself as a character who looked and sounded nothing like Brent Spiner, but had many of Data's memories and quirks.

So AMAzingly derivative. Beloved logician who is the outsider by whcih we question what it is to be human. Sacrifices himself. Worked once. They'll love it again. Let's twist again, LIKE WE DID LAST SUMMER. Insulting frankly. Encapsulates what is/was wrong with most/all of nuTrek.

. . . oh AND the other data is B4. As my students would intone in modern, incredulous parlance: "B-4: Really?" Hilarious. So danged cute! My, those Star Trek producers are so "good" at "humor," they ought to make another movie . . . oh wait, Paramount FINally put us out of our misery after that one, that's right.

Terrible. If I had a personal canon it wouldn't have happened. Luckily I'm sane.

Peace to all. But, boy this was very negative. Let me end positively. Uh - I have TOS on dvd and will now go watch one. There, I feel better than I did B-4. Whoops.
