With leola root sauce.
There's a small enough market for this audio play as it is, what's wrong with bringing in the TNG/VOY crowd?Having what I assume to be a framing story set aboard the Excelsior as an excuse to get Takei and Russ made me roll my eyes. This franchise just can't resist eating its own tail...

Then what possible reason other than fan service is there to bring in Tuvok at all? He has no connection to Khan whatsoever.I doubt that's the only reason, or even a reason.

The trailer doesn't have much and it could be my imagination but I think Naveen's British upbringing comes through in his voice meaning his accent's closer to Cumberbatch's than Montalban's (at least Naveen's ethnicity actually matches Khan this time which those other actors didn't)
There are only three significant TOS actors left, and it figures the studio would want to bring at least one of them back for this. And unlike Chekov, Sulu's been established as a ship's captain, and Takei has always wanted to do Captain Sulu stuff, which makes him the obvious choice. Once you have that, it's only logical to bring in the other major Star Trek character who's connected to Sulu's command. Then what possible reason other than fan service is there to bring in Tuvok at all? They originally wanted Khan to be played by a Hispanic actor. Cumberbatch was a last minute replacement when Benicio del Toro bowed out. I think that was Orci not Abrams who wanted that.I can only assume JJ's stupid insistence on keeping the villain secret is the only reason Andrews didn't play Khan in Into Darkness. It's not like Cumberbatch was more famous at that point, and JJ was definitely familiar with Andrews.
Unfortunately, he appeared to suffer from hearing problems, so…I suppose they could have gotten Christian Slater instead...

None. It's just marketing speak. Also, what’s the difference between an audio play and a ‘dramatic podcast’?

In 2013? He was big with people who who watch British shows on PBS, but that's not mainstream the way the cast of Lost was. When he was announced for Star Trek, it was more a big deal for his career than for the movie.Cumberbatch was a huge deal at the time.
I love Naveen Andrews but I don’t think he’s really been ‘huge’ at any point.
He’s a great choice for Khan though.
