Yeah, for diplomat, she wasn't much of a diplomat was she? Far too straight talkin' for that.

That would have made her an ideal Klingon diplomat though. Klingons don't like it if you're soft-spoken and, well, "diplomatic." Worf in DS9 said that standing far away and speaking softly was an insult to a Klingon warrior. Sisko confirmed that warriors "speak proudly to each other." In the season finale of Voyager we also see Miral Paris verbally attacking a Klingon who seemed impressed by it.

K'helar did moderate her tone when speaking to humans, she knew and used cultural differences to make her point.

Agreed, she was a great character. One of my all time favorite scenes is with her, when Gowron approaches her in the observation lounge and offers her a seat on the council if she'll speed up the proceedings. She says, "K'mpec was old and weak, I AM NOT!"
