Kate Mulgrew - Orange is the New black

This has a print article about Piper Kerman and a video interview with Alysia Reiner (Fig)

I'm going to miss her.

Thankfully I won't have to miss this lady. :rommie:

Vee was right. The Latinas have inherited the world. :bolian:

Breaking stereotypes. (1 error.... Black Cindy isn't struggling to be a single mother, she's struggling with giving up her motherhood status to her mother, to take on a more anonymous role as big sister.)

Q&A with Taylor.

^^Do you think Piper was getting "back" at Alex in the finale, or was she trying to protect her?

Hey! Lorraine (Vee) has a new job!

Red & Vee, together again for another interview. :mallory: /

TEACAKE, you'll like the bit about the red laced bra.

my cross-over fan art with bad taste alert!
http://lisavienne.tumblr.com/

I was told some of this fanart is bad taste.
so: it does contain rude language and a borg queen, a gay Neelix ....well some J/7

I read the whole thing and I saw nothing in bad taste! It is in no more bad taste than the ones that post lurid texts over VOY scenes.

I particularly liked the one with Janeway calling 7 "dandelion" because of her yellow hair :)

they kicked me out of a facebook fan group
don't understand why, but however ....

It's good to see that Piper Kerman has such a good attitude toward the creative changes in the series. That's the sort of attitude Stephen King should have had toward Kubrick.

The TIME Magazine reviewer finally finished the season.

http://time.com/2963489/oitnb-season-two-finale-review/

I laughed at this teaser at the start of the piece.

The prison drama became committed to the idea that any of its characters had enough complexity to carry a story. (Well, almost any character. Sorry, Larry.)

Later in the review he makes this statement about Piper's non-Litchfield satellites.

It’s as if Piper’s friends and her martini-chilly WASP family are the whipping boys (and girls) for the audience’s own First World Problems–if we can see the Chapman clan’s issues as being trivial in comparison to the sewage showers and shankings at Litchfield, we don’t have to feel trivial ourselves.

I don't know why he thinks the "audience" shouldn't feel trivial next to the trials and tribulation faced by the inmates. I think that's the point of the whole series, to make one stop and wonder not only (as CO Fischer said in season 1) "There but for the grace of god, go I." but also to make us wonder about the choices we make everyday. Instead of helping out in a children's library or a soup kitchen, we spend hours in a line to get a "Bagnut" which in the end was just a frosted bagel. How did Piper describe it? She couldn't recall what it was like, having the freedom to WASTE all that time.

Here's a great Q&A with SHE who MUST be OBEYED. :mallory:

And I like her description of her mashed potatoes. :guffaw:

Interesting interview with Alysia/Fig. Did you know she auditioned for Alex and Polly? She got neither, obviously, but then TPTB offered her a new character (shades of Crazy Eyes and Uzo) and made her day. :bolian:

Very very minor spoilers for season 3 in this next link.

They will finally delve into her back story more than the season 1 mommy issues . Includes pics: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-e...backstory-is-filming-in-new-york-9594930.html

To say that Lea looks like she's died and gone to heaven in this photo would be an understatement.

Piper Kerman is interviewed by Maria Shriver about "reality" of sexual abuse in prison.

Does OitNB need more men? :p

An interesting reminder/wake up call re: all the shows NOT nominated for an EMMY.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/09/showbiz/tv/emmys-2014-nomination-predictions/index.html?hpt=hp_c4

It reminds me how "Citizen Kane" may be on everyone's top 5 list of "Movies for all time", yet it didn't win an Oscar.

Hmmm. :vulcan:

Photo-shopped?

It is a clean sweep for OITNB in Emmy nominations:

Outstanding Comedy Series

Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series Taylor Schilling

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series KATE MULGEW

Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series Uzo Aduba, Laverne Cox, Natasha Lyonne

Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series "Orange Is the New Black" -- "I Wasn't Ready" (Jenji Kohan and Liz Friedman)

Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series "Orange Is the New Black" -- "Lesbian Request Denied" (Jodie Foster)

FABULOUS and WELL-DESERVED

Awards are based on Season One, as Season Two was released too late to qualify this year. So expect nominations for Kate and Lorraine Toussaint and others next year.

I missed four of the Emmy nominations. Totally Kate said there were 12 for OITNB.

Outstanding Casting

Three nominations for Outstanding Single-camera Picture Editing For A Comedy Series - 2014 -

Kate better get this.

Muh general predictions - OITNB will get about half of the Emmys it's in for and win best comedy, but Taylor won't get best actress because Lena Dunham and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are there.

The Normal Heart and Fargo will split the TV movie and mini-series categories, though Chiwetel Ejiofor will win best actor because he got an Oscar.

Breaking Bad will win best drama, but Matthew McConaughey will win best actor because he got an Oscar. Robin Wright or Kerry Washington will get best actress. Anna Gunn will get best supporting actress again.
