Kate Mulgrew - Orange is the New black

However, i dont think we will get what we want. This Mark Harelik is 63, isn't he a bit old?

Let's first see, how this person looks and acts bevor we give him our Queen.

ACK!!!!

He's only 3 1/2 years older than Kate!

And he's the one guy you always hear Kate talk about when she discusses Janeway's lovelife.

Gawker:

When season 2 of Orange is the New Black first became available for binge-watching, astute observers noticed that nearly the entire recurring cast had previously appeared on the show that practically invented binge-watching: Law and Order.

33 OINTB actors have made cameos on Dick Wolf's venerable, formulaic, crime drama (or its spinoffs, including Special Victims Unit and Criminal Intent). Nerve.com 's Dianna McDougall and Wesley Bonner have tracked down 31 of them for this comprehensive supercut.

Gawker

And the first clip is Kate Mulgrew. Really.

Nice! I've never been a fan of those shows at all, as in I hate them  I have to wonder though is this really remarkable? Hasn't practically everyone been on one of them?

L&O has been around for so long and uses so many guest stars that its hard not to find an actor who hasn't played it at some time.

I add this link just because it makes me laugh in the "you poor guys, OitNB is so mean to you" vein.

Red's girls have extreme loyalty to her because she has taken on personal risk to keep them away from heroin. There's nothing sexual about it.

:mallory:

Oh I agree.

From day 1 Nicky described Red as her maternal figure.

When she ratted Red out it was the child rebelling from a perceived insult.

When she turned and confessed what she had done, it was the child seeking forgiveness and another chance at her mother's love/respect.

When she turned the heroin over to Red she was turning to that manifestation of the "higher power incarnate" in her life to save her from herself.

She did what Red asked of her, what Red asked of Tricia (who could not comply)... to love themselves enough to want something better and to trust her with their lives.

And Red WAS worthy of that trust.

Unlike Vee.

Red didn't chew up her children and spit them out (JR, Suzanne) whenever it was expedient for her to do so.

Thank God.

:mallory:

thats true for "the (ex-addict) girls" but not for WOMAN like silent Norma, who is an adult, not "needy" for that kind of protection.

To be loyal and to provide personal services like leg shaving (touching her body:drool: ) is a differnt level and can be fetish. Of course you can interpret it also as a friends favour, but you cant imagine it the other way around, can you?

Its not Normas job, she is not a cosmetician ?

Well... I really don't think Alex massaged Red's feet for forty five minutes because she has a secret desire to get down and dirty with the Russian. She did it to "get" something as mundane as food from the prison power broker. :mallory:

Silent Norma did something in her past, was involved in something bad enough to get her butt thrown in prison for at least as long as Red's been there. She is not an overpowering personality and doesn't look like she could stand up to Leanne (Pennsatucky's fellow meth head & former minion) much less Vee. Red can provide her "protection" and initially she could provide Red with information since people probably talk freely around the mousey mute.

You assume her interest in Red is sexual, not "friendly", because you can't imagine Red returning the favor and yet can you imagine Red allowing Norma such "liberties" if there was a sexual component to them? The woman who told Sophia "DON'T be ridiculous!" when she was asked if Red was coloring her hair in the prison to attract another prisoner. :wtf:

No, I look upon those two as boss/minion at the very least and friends at the most. That scene at the greenhouse dinner party makes me say "long time good friends". :luvlove:

Not the kind of "friend" that Facebook celebrates. :p

Of course, the beauty of fiction is you can read anything into it you desire, so if it pleases you to see subtext between the two golden girls, have at it.

Of course it is MY imagination/interpretation and the story will never turn out this way. Same impossible as Janeway with a whip and Paris on the leash, as it was subtext in Bride of Chaotica.

I agree to all your arguments, exept one:

The target of such (submissive) preferences does not need to "allow", not even to know anything of the motive of the sub. Red is fine with shaved legs and maybe it does not matter how does it.

Even if Red is "straight and vanilla", if Norma would like to serve her - she can do so, smile, be close to her and touch her legs while let all others belive that its just for favours/protection/whatever. She is so invisible and not involved in any business, no one threatens her, what for she needs protection?

the scene when Norma throws the secret santa slip of paper in front of Reds feet shows that she can stand up for herself, i dont underestimate her. Norma will turn out as strong.

I would not compare this with the Alex massage, which was no doubt a deal.

I need a little liveliness (morello) or chutzpah (big boo) for teh sexy. Norma is ringing no bells.

BUT IN SEASON 3 when we see her background as..

The ratting dampened my ardor but I think she just got caught in her arrogance and her idea that she could play the game.

As to the looks, she's great! Hair cut really suits her and her tatts are totally her.

One could see that as the behavior of a cult follower or acolyte.

I like the way that Red got the idea to kill Vee first, and couldn't follow through with it because she's not a psychopath, then Vee turned around and had no such compunctions. That's really the difference between Red and Vee. They both get similar ideas, but Red is held back by an emotional connection to other people and Vee is not.

Along those lines, I like how Norma got the idea to poison Vee with home made cyanide (Is that why she's in prison in the first place?) to get back at Vee for the beat down and how Gloria not only disabused her of the idea but showed her "another way" to get the same results. :techman:

"It's like catholic-Plus!"

Life imitating art again?

http://www.foxnews.com/entertainmen...ess-taryn-manning-alleges-ex-pal-stalked-her/

I disagree, to a point. Of course every story with some basis in fact will look "absurd" from time to time... http://screencrush.com/orange-is-the-new-black-season-2-finale-disappointing/ ... but Vee's death wasn't a random act. It was FATE.

Vee came into prison with the plan to put herself back on top of the dung heap known as Litchfeld. To that end she used, seduced, bullied many of the inmates not to mention nearly killing two people (Poussey & Red) to get her way.

One of those people she bullied, however, was more dangerous than she could have ever imagined. It isn't "cancer" you don't f*ck with (season 1 quote), its a person who has nothing left to lose (season 2 quote). Poussey may have delivered that season 2 quote, but it describes Miss Rosa who literally has only weeks left to live.

Weeks left to live in a facility that imprisons her and gives her crappy food while withholding possible life preserving cancer surgery.

Miss Rosa doesn't need much at this stage of the game, but respect is appreciated. The respect the lady guard gives, the cancer kid eventually gives, that Morello gives, even the hug that Piper gives.

It doesn't take much to do that.

But to take that away, to be treated less than dirt by a fellow inmate like Vee was an insult that would not be forgotten.

An insult that would be avenged by the woman who unlike Red, had nothing left to lose.

Yes it was funny, yes it was kismet, but in this world where what goes around (Vee arranging the killing of JR and the beating of Pousey), comes around, Vee certainly DID deserve it.
