Have you ever done it? What songs do you like to sing?
Me, I did karaoke for the first time yesterday. A friend of mine celebrated her brithday in an Irish pub (well, a German version of an Irish pub, to be precise) where they have a karaoke night every week. At first I didn't think I could make it (I'm rather shy and hate to stand in front of so many people), but once I was on the stage singing it felt great!
The pub was crammed full of people, so it wasn't exactly an intimate atmosphere. It felt like everyone was watching me. My hands where shaking and I couldn't really look anyone in the eyes. Hell, I even forgot the first lines of one of my favorite songs! (I sang The Cure's classic Friday I'm In Love, by the way.) But once the song started and I began to sing, it really was a fun experience. I don't really remember much of what happened in these minutes, because of the rush of adrenalin, but I think my voice sounded higher than I expected. That was weird and I'm not sure if the DJ maybe pitched my voice a little higher. (I have no clue why he would think that was a good idea.)
The great thing about karaoke, however, is the applause afterwards. Everyone gets an applause and I think that's a nice thing. It doesn't really matter if you can sing. The most important thing, I guess, is that you enjoy yourself.
I even sang another song that night: There Is A Light That Never Goes Out by The Smiths. And that one was even more fun, because (like Morrissey) you don't really have to sing in key or something. However, I will definitely go again.
So, what about you?
