Karaoke

This thread makes me want to get drunk with Bashir and O'Brien. Doing some Karaoke at Quark's, whether the Ferengi likes it or not. And I'd like to see Morn singing. Relocating to Vic's.......

Did you ever get a chance to go to Quark's in Las Vegas? I didn't exactly sing karaoke, but there was definitely drunken Star Trek fun. Including the Ferengi who tried to buy my wife.

It may sound funny. I really had the chance to visit Las Vegas. It was 1995. I wasn't old enough to get booze or wasn't allowed to gamble or something (at least not according to the American legal age). As to Star Trek like "Come to Quark's... etc: I just have to wait for Armin Shimerman to make an appearance at a German Convention. And the whole Enterprise Blues Band for that matter.

Me and my friends used to go to a Chinese karaoke bar in Leeds and sing the Ghostbusters theme. The words were... Who're you gonna call?

I limit my singing to the inside of my car. No way I'm unleashing my voice on the general public.

I personally can't stand karaoke---probably has something to do with the fact I don't drink, and most public singing involves a large amount of drunk people; I'm pretty sure that hell is one endless overheated karaoke bar.

I am not a fan of long Karoke songs. It gets tedious to be polite to someone who is hurting my ear drums for well over five minutes. Conversely, I try to make sure my song selections are nice and compact.

So Ballad of the Alamo is beyong all question. Like almost all the story telling songs with a great many lyrics.

Yes. I sat through some song that was 9 minutes long at a karaoke bar, and even though the singer was better than average, it was a torturous experience. We had to sing "I will survive" afterwards to make everyone feel better.

On the other hand there are long songs which are really great. Brother in Arms for instance. But I think this is more a song for aforementioned jam sessions than for Karaoke.

American Pie is a great one, if you like to sing long, repetitive songs.

Kor

Yeah, jam sessions are a different thing all together. Different song choices, different style.

I enjoy some A Capella jam sessions too - its fun when friends can practice harmonizing.

Does that happen around you a lot? Or is it a case of even the few times being too many? ;)
It may be confirmation bias, but I swear there is at least one instance every time I karaoke in a club or bar (as opposed to group rooms). And it's always some dudes who are like, 'Look how funny and ironic and rad it is that I'm a tough guy biker dude singing this song!"

And it goes. on. forever.

I'd like to try doing karaoke to Rammstein's "Links 2 3 4".

(There's two concepts that rarely go together: Rammstein and karaoke!)

Oh, don't mistake my meaning, I'm definitely not a "fan" of Rammstein, as such. In fact, most of the time they scare the crap out of me. I just like a couple of their songs, like "Links 2 3 4" for instance.

Also "Du hast" because I can't get the Cookie Monster metaphor out of my head.
