Just Witnessed a Shooting

I used to hear gunfire a lot when I lived in Memphis. I did "witness" one that happened about two buildings down when I lived in an apartment complex. I heard about five shots, looked out my front window and saw a guy running into his car. He peeled off across curbs and squeeled out of the parking lot. Called the cops. They said they were already on the way. They showed up and did their investigation stuff. I never figured out exactly what happened other than no one got hurt. The property manager was like, "what gunfire?"

Wow, I'm glad you weren't injured by any stray bullets. Good that you seem to be taking it well, that kind of thing would have scared me quite a bit, but Sweden is kinda docile overall compared to NY.

Seriously? I thought y'all were Vikings and shit.

I'm curious about the details of the incident. I wonder if there was one shooter, or if they all shot each other. Maybe they were fighting over an alligator.

The whole incident was caught on tape. You would have thought it would get more publicity with a politician and a celebrity involved.

Glad to hear you're okay, TSQ, and I hope everyone involved recovers. :)

Yeah, I'd never tell my mom. And no, she doesn't lurk here! I haven't seen anything about it on the news, but then, I never watch local news.
Soy milk:barf::p Just kidding, that's not all I took away from that story. That's pretty fucked up, glad I don't live in NY. or any other big city. I was born in a small town, I can breathe in a small town....John Melloncamp now in my head.

People overrate the insecurity of big cities. Per capita, the violent crime rate in rural areas is generally about on par with that of urban areas.

Anyway, glad to hear you're okay, tsq! I can only imagine how unsettling that must be.
This is something I wanted to address too -- crime happens in small towns just as it does in big cities. Frankly, I feel much safer walking around NYC late at night , what with it's constant crowds, than I do walking around suburbia after hours!

I figured you'd agree, having seen you post about that sort of thing before. :) And that's part of the reason why I prefer living downtown to the 'burbs... I like knowing there'll be people around if I step out at midnight.

Yeah, I've heard gunshots in Memphis a few times, and there are occassional robberies and muggings now and then.

Glad you were ok. Maybe the alligators could be trained and made deputies...

Naw, just look at their health care system -- they are clearly vastly more civilized than we!
Indeed

Well, the thing that's stayed from the Vikings is overall the drinking part sadly. So mostly around here it's drunks and since we're near a port, smuggling crimes. But if you go down into Stockholm the criminal world is a bit more present. Then again, we've got 20 000 people in this town, thev've got a million in Stockholm.

That being said gunviolence is very uncommon outside of the bigger cities. If you hear gunshots around here it's during hunting season and some elk just bit the dust.

Mate, you've never been to Södertälje or Rosengård, have you?

If they just shot the croc instead, we could be talking about shoes and handbags instead bodybags.

I love how you can put things into perspective. :D

I'm a visionary, always thinking of the big picture..... ;)

Damn, I haven't seen that movie in ages. Eraser, right?

What a line. :mallory:

I've been to Tom Tits and Sydpoolen in the former, but have had no reason to visit them otherwise.

Besides todays headline for the local newspaper was "Woman ax-murdered!" so there's the Vikings bit I guess

Yep.

I just can't get over those lifeless, empty eyes, almost as if they weren't even rendered.

That whole sequence has some of the worst CGI I've ever seen. I guess they shot their wad on the awesome railgun scenes.

"Fuck you, recoil!"

(before anyone says anything, yes, railguns do have recoil - massively so)

I think this film has past me by, will have to put it on my films to see list.

perhaps the alligator got a gun and decied to settle the score about being dragged from his warm swampy home to the big cold dry big city.

glad you are ok tsq.
