Just use a "Connie"!

No, not unless he portrays John Frederick Paxton, or a future relative of his. ;)

Given their shared xenophobia and appearance, it could be both. Paxton having had a family that we didn't necessarily know about, a wife leaving him after finding out about his using alien genetic treatments to cure his condition.

She remarries, the Marcus family, who are divided on things like aliens and Starfleet. They are spread out over America and England, Daddy Marcus keeps up the Terra Prime mentality and joins Starfleet and S31 to thwart aliens threats to Earth, Carol joins the English and more alien friendly side of the family for her education.

Would make an interesting episode in itself.

Since CBS officially dubbed the JJ Abrams films as "The Kelvin Timeline", and with Leonard Nemoy officially reprising his role as Spock, the JJ Abrams films ARE canon. FYI.

The same way the other alternate universes are, like the Mirror universe.

Yeah, canon. I doubt anyone would or is questioning the validity of the other universes being canon. This is just more bellyaching about the Abrams films. It does seem like the folks that hate them the most are the most obsessed with them.

I would watch that episode again and again.

Exactly this. But, the Mirror universe probably isn't canon either.

For some reason it reminds me of Axanar and Peter's argument that it would be what Star Trek fans wanted who were left cold by Abrams' films. The focus of the argument isn't on the positives of the franchise and what is liked, but on the negative and how to combat it.

It's a stance that I, to this day, do not understand. Also, there seems to be little desire to explain it.

People have coined this goofy term "head canon," which is equivalent to "subterranean flying bird."

How exactly is the Mirror Universe not canon? There's been seven (IIRC) episodes that have taken place in that alternate reality. Characters from the Prime universe have interacted with it. Same as the Abrams films.
I think people are a little unclear about what canon means.

Hey, swiftlets! We had some of those around when we lived in Queensland. Noisy, fucking, menaces.

To be fair to Dennis, they're about as 'subterranean' as bats or finches. They sleep and build nests there, but spend most of their time outside. Actually, finches better fit the description of 'subterranean.' They will dig themselves little cave systems, especially if you have piles of soil in your backyard.

While you are correct, there are seven episodes in the Mirror Universe, I'll also add DS9's resurrection in which characters from the MU (Intendant Kira and Bareil) visit the Prime Universe.

Oh, i agree that the Mirror universe is canon. My comment was meant as more sarcastic than serious.

It's a great term when you think about it. It shows that the person is willing to concede that their opinion is not fact.

They use "head canon" because they believe it gives their opinion an air of authority.

While the Abrams movies are my least favorite of the Trek moves, I still generally enjoyed them. I was interested in seeing the Axanar movie and I am disappointed I never will.
DS9's resurrection
What is this?

I too have a "head canon," but I am under no misconception that my personal opinion has, or needs, authority.

If (for example) you don't like my head canon, oh well.

Head canon is also trying to figure out things that the show didn't make completely clear. Existence of money, Starfleet as a military, was Insurrection right, was Tuvix a person, was the EMH a person, was Kirk's middle initial ever an R. Things like that.
