I love Nostalgia Critic but does he enjoy anything?

Well, that is part of the character.

Yeah, pretty much. That the character.

Doug Walker, on the other hand, who co-hosts "Sibling Rivalry" with his brother and they often review the newest big release enjoys quite a bit, or at least has less extreme reactions, though his reactions to JW were more-or-less mirrored by NC, but Doug seemed to more-or-less "like" the movie, it just wasn't what he wanted.

On the HISHE video:

That's actually a good point, why weren't the pterodactyls outfitted with the proximity shockers? I know they were confined to the aviary but certainly it occurred to someone that the possibility *did* exist that they could get out in the event of a catastrophic emergency so putting the proximity shocker in them would be a good "just in case" measure to take.

I also like the notion of them mentioning not having moats around the paddocks which, as they say, zoos have been doing for decades to confine animals from the public.

I *could* argue BDH had to leave the paddock to use her phone in order to get to the command center or having bad cell-reception in the room? I dunno, that's shaky. Does seem like she could have done something without panicking and running out of there right away.

One could argue the dinosaur-sized gate in the paddock was there to accommodate future expansion. It's hardly a large-sized paddock so maybe they planned on eventually building something larger and the gate was there to allow the I-Rex to move between the old wing and any new wing. Easier to have the giant door there already than to have to add one. Probably wouldn't have been a bad idea to have the proximity-shocker to be at the door's threshold rather than "somewhere else."

I was left wondering why there was an aviary with pterodactyls at all. It was out in the middle of nowhere, and there were no visitors inside it. Were the suppose to drive the gyro balls into it? Seems kinda unsafe to me, since we saw the dinosaurs can break the thing quite easily.

If it wasn't being used by the park, why pay for the upkeep? What were the pterodactyls eating in there?

I never bought the gyroballs for a second! You just know some jackass teenager would have used it to harass the Dinos long before this. Giving the untrained visitors autonomous control over the vehicles is a disaster waiting to happen.

The aviary was part of the tour, but by the point of the events near it they had already pulled all of the park guests from the various attractions to the main area/promenade.

Yep. Just one of many many nonsensical lazy plot points in this movie.

Well yes, it has to follow up on Jurassic Park.

I can't be the only one who realizes how STUPID Jurassic Park and it's characters are? Right? I mean the silent T-Rex at the end, the fact the door in the control lab can't lock without power, the kid falling into a tree, then out of the tree, then being shocked by 40,000 watts... all incredibly stupid.

But we don't care because it's fun to watch. Then for some reason Jurassic World is expected to be "better" with the lameness? I don't care, I just want to have fun.

Jurassic Park had a certain level of fear and dread to it that I find actually interesting (and I rarely do). It had characters and a theme than unfolded in an interesting way, even with some of the stupidity.

JW lacks the character depth to give their points of view (and lives) meaning in terms of the world, save for a couple. It also feels like it leans too heavily on the first film for inspiration to work (dare I say, nostalgia!).

I had fun, but I know that it could have been a whole lot more.

That makes sense. I just don't see the benefit of building a huge cage to let pterodactyls fly about. I mean, that thing would have been expensive! But I don't run a giant zoo, so what do I know?

The Jurassic World site, which is amusingly designed like a site for an actual place says the pterodactyls eat fresh fish from a stream in the aviary. That makes sense. Pterodactyls have long beaks, which like birds with similar features probably evolved to allow them to dive for fish and other water animals.

What doesn't make sense is them trying to eat people, or being able to fly with people in their grip. But it was a fun scene.

Ah, yes. The Star Wars Prequel Stratagem, which says "it's okay for this film to suck, because the others did too". Yes, the characters in JP were stupid at times - for example, Hammond hired Nedry to design the computer system for his park despite clearly not trusting the guy and hinting that Nedry is having life problems (this was never explained, oddly). Despite this, when Nedry leaves in a hurry acting suspiciously, nobody questions this.

As for your complaints, the T-Rex was likely quiet when it moved, relatively speaking. It wouldn't be able to survive as a hunter if it made thundering noises whenever it moved. The door locks - that was silly, but fit the idea that everything in the park was computerized and automated. Timmy was thrown into a tree while in a vehicle and climbed out of the tree. Not sure what you are getting at there. He was shocked by the fence as he was climbing over it. The fence's were electrified so the dinos wouldn't touch them. So?

In any event, the stupidity and mistakes of the characters in JP, a bunch of untrained civilians, doesn't excuse the massive stupidity of people who are highly trained and have been running the same theme park for years, or are military personnel who clearly have no idea how to use stealth or shoot weapons.

JP, at the very least, had tense moments. JW has none. JP had likable characters. JW has none. JP had quotable lines. Can you quote a single line from JW? Maybe "what did I just say". JP felt like a project by people who were passionate about what they were doing. JW felt like a product pumped out to make money, and serve as product placement. In other words, the typical summer blockbuster.

Are you guys still here!?! Didn't this movie come out like last year? Go home. Take a shower. Get some sleep.

For all the bragging that Hammond did about sparing no expense, Nedry was hired because he had the lowest bid for the job. Hammond went for his computer guy on the cheap and ended up paying for it. Also, Nedry says he's going to the vending machines which shouldn't come as a shock to anybody since his desk is hoarded up with empty Jolt cans and candy wrappers :)

Yeah, but he didn't just say, "I'm going do the vending machine." he was sweating like crazy, eyes totally out of control with shifting, stuttering: "i am going to the vending machine, totally bening break and not up to something suspicious like industrial espionage, see... anybody want some embryos... i mean m&ms? Gone now... not for good, i swear... i'll be riiight back!"

^ I took Nedry as the type that his coworkers can't stand being around and only tolerate him because of the $$$. You can tell Arnold frequently tunes him out when Nedry starts yammering on about the bug causing the headlights to stay on requiring a lot of compute cycles. After the initial eye roll from Arnold and Muldoon, I think they just tune him out and hope he'll fuck off.

I love the fact that people totally accept the dino's, but complain about things like gyroballs........

I like how Hammond's mantra is "we spared no expense" but apparently he gave the computing contract to Nedry, conversations with suggest Nedry was the lowest bidder for the work. So I guess they *did* spare some expense.

It's been a while since I read the book but I suspect it went into more detail about the friction between Nedry and Hammond.

Oh, I was agreeing with you right until the last paragraph. JW did not have likeable characters? I know mileage will vary, but I was kind of surprised by that one.

I can quote lines from JW, no problem. But, I'm weird that way.

JW just felt more lik a mold of JP style films, with dinosaurs running around eating people. I definitely think it could have been more, but I dislike LW and JP III far more than JW.
