July Writing Challenge: KAIJU!

This is a very intriguing challenge. Can we create a monster or species that is inspired one of the creatures, but doesn't share the same name, or do we have to use the same name? The reason why I ask is because I've seen something of interest that I would like to maybe write a challenge entry for, but also use in later stories. And I didn't want to use the original name.

Sorry. Part of the challenge is using the monsters as listed, which includes using the names if you intend on naming them anything. I mean, I suppose you could get away without naming them in the story at all, but calling one a new species implies you'll see more than one in the future, and these monsters are all meant to be unique (I know, that makes no sense biologically speaking, but that's how they're all portrayed), so I want them to be unique in the stories.

Look at it this way: how the monster gets the name can be up to you within the context of the story.

LOL, who knows...maybe that's where Juno Reactor got it, too!

And Gojirob--I dread asking and getting it wrong on 2 different people, but would the title of YOURS be related by any chance to the Apocryphal story "Bel and the Dragon"?

More like Saint George And The Dragon, NG. But I am interested in Apocryphal works. I consider some of Peter's childhood to be inspired by The Infancy Gospel Of Saint Thomas, albeit very loosely.

Sigh.. unless I get a bolt of inspiration I'm gonna have to skip this one. All my ideas so far end up as bad "holodeck done glitched again" episodes...

Hm, what a sheer coincidence -- this month's challenge is the perfect place to show off this find: http://godzillahaiku.tumblr.com/

That's right, Godzilla Haikus!

You've been waiting forever for someplace to post this, haven't you?

Wellll, I found it the day of, but didn't feel like it warranted a thread. And the site reminded me of this thread anyway. Still, if it helps with the creative process for the writing challenge, then have at it!
