July Challenge Theme: Captain of the Io

First off: Thanks to all those that posted for the previous month's challenge.

Your mission if you chose to accept or not - to write about any Captain of the USS Io, the sister ship to the USS Titan. It can be any event in the mysterious (and unnamed) Captain's life being told of the USS Io, before the Captain gets to the USS Io, his/her promotion after the USS Io, someone even showing interest in applying to be the Captain of the Io, or even a brief communication to the Captain of the Io from some other ship.

Here are the Rules: (As borrowed from Rush's rules)

The word limit - a 7,000 word limit.

Do not reuse a tale previously posted in TrekBBS.

The stories must be your own work.

It must be in the Star Trek universe, with Star Trek characters - any era you wish. You may use established canon, the TrekLit chronology, and your own fanfic.

Post a link to your story on this thread, when you've finished it.

The submission deadline will be: Sunday, July 30th, 11:59 PM Hawaii Standard Time.

Voting will take place July 31st-August 1st. There will be a run-off, if there's a tie.

Much as I liked Titan, that continuity is only marginally compatible with my own continuity and I don't want to try and shoehorn it.

Sigh.

All right - if that is too limiting then as an amendment just write about justice. Would that be acceptable?

While I don't have an entry, I know a friend of mine that I will be VERY much pressuring to enter, should you be interested in using that topic. :D

I think that would be a better idea. Not only would let people to be fully creative with their stories, but also would result in varied stories.

I might actually have an idea for "justice" :) The idea is not new, but the story hasn't been written yet.

All right then. The monthly challenge for July is two fold:

1. Write about any Captain of the USS Io, the sister ship to the USS Titan.

2. "Justice"

The same rules as above will follow.

Not to be dense, but is the challenge "captain of the Io" AND "justice", or is it "captain of the Io" OR "justice"?

What's so limiting about making a story about a titan class ship named Io and involving the current/once/future captain? Sounds challenging to me.

With so many options given, there's very little left for creativity.

So you'll be posting a story then, to show us all how it's done?

Yeah, you're right. ya got me. it's really hard to make a story fit the criteria of a certain ship name and have a character that will be/has been/is captain. Just pointing out that if you have a good story idea then a couple of small details like that shouldn't be an issue. Think of it as a <ahem> challenge.

The problem is that your idea for a story might not work in the given setting. I am currently working on the "Justice" idea and I know for sure that I couldn't convert it to fit this setting, because the Io was not at the time of the Maquis and certainly wouldn't try to wipe them out.

These details are not small--they are huge ;)

It is a challenge, but the limits are likely to limit the number of participants.
