JR Trek

Have we had enough of Trek parodies (Galaxy Quest/Orville) or Trek comedies (Lower Decks/SNW) yet?

I've been working on the AI version of Yaoi Hokkaido. I've got 15 or so renders of her with a consistent likeness, so hopefully the AI will not struggle to hold her appearance as much as it has with my past attempts to generate her. Almost ready to try. Despite the marketing hype, this is not easy.

I believe I've got character consistency worked out -

Even after all the effort I put into making my reference pictures, OpenArt.AI did, in fact, struggle with character consistency. There are two ways to generate character images - you can either do it in the character section, which has the option to create a pose with a 3D mannequin, or you can go through the regular image creator and use "omnireference" images in Flux Kontext. But, you don't get both. The regular image creator will actually produce consistent character images, if you call on the character and also upload reference images as omnireference. Perhaps if a pose image is uploaded as omnireference, it will use that for the pose as well. If it can, I'd use a real 3D program like Blender to make the pose, because OpenArt.AI's mannequin doesn't do fingers or expressions. Something to try one day.

Now it's time to work on images for Yaoi's insta.

I can't believe I'm realizing the Yaoi-Prize, but here are some tries at the Yaoi-Prize version of the holodeck -

I made a bunch of glowy ones, of which this was the best -

Looks more like SNW than TOS though. Cool, but not the right direction to go for the holodeck. It could be the computer core.

Next!

Now this is more like it! What a perfect pulp sci-fi vibe. I wish the TOS Connie had been reimagined like this, instead of an Apple product, or whatever SNW is.

Here's one that would be great for a "refit - "

Interesting, but more of a shuttle bay?

Another nice one, side bay for working on shuttles? Is that a deuterium fuel pod sticking out of the wall? Is this the Yaoi-Prize, or the JR-Prise?

And the voyage begins - https://www.instagram.com/yaoi.hokkaido/

Y'know, a Star Trek parody Instagram influencer almost sounds like a genuinely good idea. I wonder if this one will make it? Or will I bury my chances under the weight of references to TOS and TNG era Star Trek?

That screams “Guardians of the Galaxy” to me. Beautifully executed 😊

I've only seen clips of Guardians - isn't their stuff more ornate? The Milano has got a bunch of excess wings on her.

I fed the orthos of the JR-Prise into OpenArt.ai just to see what it could do. It's a bit distorted and inaccurate, but not too bad -

In reality it would make more sense to set up the shot in Blender and let the AI do the final render and backdrop. Still, an interesting test.

IMO, one of my big failures with the JR-Prise was using the white color scheme of the refit, which in all honesty happened because I didn't realize the original Connie was supposed to be grey. I built a couple models of the original when I was a kid, and I painted them white because I didn't know better. So, in my head the original Connie was also white.

A couple years ago I came across a picture of this aircraft, sitting in a museum -

Now THAT's what the JR-Prise's surface treatment should be! It should be a satin, polished aluminum, with orange pinstriping and graphics. I haven't had the time yet to redo the 3D model, but with AI I was able to change some of my old renders -

The job the AI did isn't quite perfect, but it shows how well the idea will work. It needs some bigger orange color swatches, but that is nice! Much better than the SNW Connie IMO, but that one's a big improvement on the JJ-Prise at least.
