3D Master
Rear Admiral
A demonically enhanced 110lb woman with super strength. Captain America and Ms Marvel punch way above their weight limit as well, and nobody seems to mind.
The only criticism I never got.
If he puts Ms. Marvel in the movie then I won't be complaining, but so far the only female Avenger we know to be in any of the build up films is Black Widow - an ordinary human woman with no metahuman abilities.
While she has significant hand to hand combat training, she's not going to beat the Hulk or Thor in a fight.
Whedon has a habit of endowing his female characters with unnatural combat abilities. I'm not talking about Buffy here, she has superhuman abilities, I'm talking about River Tam and Echo.
River Tam is a genetically engineered killing machine with superhuman strength, speed, and agility, designed to kill Reavers. She's a Slayer made by science instead of magic.
The way Echo fought, yes, but Echo could have defeated him believably if she fought different. Because here's a reality check: he or she who cannot be hit, cannot be beaten. It doesn't matter how strong, large, powerful the opponent is, if they can't hit the other guy or girl, they can't defeat him or her. That fight in Dollhouse's "Man on the Street" for instance lasts about 10 seconds in the real world. Echo just isn't a physical threat to a man with Ballard's size and training, no matter what skills you dump in to her brain.
This of course, lends to a fighting style that is designed to avoid getting hit, deflecting hits, redirecting their momentum, and using that opponent's strength and speed against them; not trading blow for blow as Echo did.
Yeah, he's a misandrist. For some reason, as well, Dollhouse chose to purposefully ignore this reality by waiting until the penultimate episode to give such skills to an Active, namely Victor, who could actually use them. I think we all know why Joss does this.
For a 70kg thin chick with curves and no muscles, that's punching above her weight.Ms. Marvel, on the other hand, doesn't "punch above her weight". Under normal circumstances, she is capable of lifting around 70 tons. She can augment this further with her energy absorption ability to around 100 tons - making her a Level 11 on the generally agreed upon Marvel scale - a Level 12 is considered "Incalculable".
All in all, I say give him a chance. People got to start somewhere right. And if Marvel feels like he can handle the job, give him that chance. BtVS was pretty much his only show that didn't get axed prematurely by Fox, some would say it stayed around longer than it should have, but if he gets the gig, we'll see how it turns out. This could possibly turn out to be a really good thing. It will be Whedon-ized storytelling, but with a bigger budget and really talented actors to back it. The biggest he's ever worked with, I'm sure. Or it will be a horrible blunder the world has ever witnessed. I actually think i started coming to these boards back in 2003 because of BtVS and anything Trek, but yeah.
None of Whedon's shows got axed prematurely by Fox. Two of his shows should never have been made, and if made anyway, should have been canceled a lot sooner, but that's a whole other matter.
Well, this is the Internet, so we have to condemn something before we even give it the light of day.
We've given Joss Whedon plenty light of day, he squandered all of it.
The only chance this movie has of being good, is if he's got nothing to do with the script, and he has to stick to the script when directing it.
If he gets to interject his own stuff in it, you can forget about this movie being good.
