Oooh, you are so angst-y and edge-y. Are you sure you are not written by Joss himself?
Don't know about angsty and edgey....
I'm getting a S5 and S6 Dawn Summers vibe.

lolthe same Jarvis that polishes Thor's helmet
Regardless of people's individual opinions of Joss Whedon and his work, I would like to point out the following things:
1) He's got experience as a director, writer, and Executive Producer
Which were horrible. My GOD the ending of Civil War. YAAAARGHH!2) He has established cred with Marvel, having worked with them on Astonishing X-Men and Runaways, and having contributed story ideas for the ending of the Civil War storyline
No, he doesn't.3) He has a stellar track record of working with large ensemble casts
I don't care why they consider him to direct any movie, all I know is, he's bad at it. It rather makes Marvel yahoos no better; rather exemplified by their lack of any good comics these days. His previous work with Marvel would make him a viable candidate just by itself, but when you factor in the other two things, it's not hard at all to see why they might consider hiring him to direct a movie like The Avengers.
So I guess I should ask the inevitable question: Which Avenger is getting killed off, now?
This is my only other concern about this movie as Whedon has a tenancy to have a 110 lb woman take down a man three times her size in his projects.
A demonically enhanced 110lb woman with super strength. Captain America and Ms Marvel punch way above their weight limit as well, and nobody seems to mind.
The only criticism I never got.
And, Jackson, SCC was a shitty show. And you know it. Now you're just reaching.
So I can't like a show now without it seeming like I am "reaching"? Ever heard of a "different opinion"?
^She had no such abilities. They gave her hand to hand combat training, that's all.
No matter how well a 100lb girl is trained to punch, she's still not hurting a man twice her size.
Michelle Trachtenberg as someone who beats up Iron Man, Captain America, Nick Fury, Hulk and Thor at the same time single-handedly without breaking a sweat or using weapons?

River had telepathic abilities, which, given a few scenes in "Out of Gas", presumably included limited precognition. If she can sense what an enemy was going to do before he did it, and had the reflexes to act on that sense, this would be a massive advantage in hand-to-hand. It doesn't matter how strong the enemy is or how weak she is if every strike of hers lands and every strike of the enemy's does not.

Sure, but telepathic abilities do not strengthen the bones in her hand or the muscles in her arms. She would come away from a lot of fights just as badly hurt as her opponent.
