Entertainment Weekly reports that Jonathan Frakes is returning to Star Trek to direct an episode of Discovery!

“Jonathan Frakes will rejoin the Trek world with Discovery,” writer-producer Gretchen J. Berg told EW. “He’s a fantastic guy and great director.”

Added fellow showrunner Aaron Harberts: “Our cast is dying to work with him.”

While exciting news for Star Trek fans, somewhere out there a convention promoter is getting another cancellation notice! :p

Here's hoping one or two follow - Roxanne Dawson's work has been incredible in recent times, she and space husband Robert Duncan McNeill both have a lovely style.

Just shared this in the thread about returning actors directing in Discovery.

Glad they got him! :techman:

But-- but--- Discovery has no involvement from past Star Trek people. (Nick Meyer? Never heard of him.)
And-- and-- The Orville is the TRUE Trek because Frakes (and others) are directing!

Seriously, this is great news. One of the best Star Trek actor-directors in history.

It got to the point where I had to quit watching trekyards because they were so negative about discovery, saying it's not prime and all the other bs. Wonder if any of the anti-discovery "fans" will shut up now.

I've unfollowed about a dozen groups on Facebook - not just because of the negativity, but as so much of it makes little to no sense. Reminds me of a few years back in the wrestling fan circles, when everyone was complaining because the business was filled with over the top muscley figures who had more mass than talent.

Then they started filtering in athletic, slimmer figures and all of a sudden they weren't bit enough to be taken seriously.

Star Trek fans are becoming (or maybe always have been) on that same petty level. It's maddening.

Great news. I'd love to see him direct a Mayer script. Either way, the director of one of the best star trek movies working on the same show as the writer and director of arguable the best has to be a good thing for Star Trek.

Interesting news, I like it. Can't wait for some behind the scenes photos of him working with the crew.

Riker was always one of my favorite characters from the Star Trek universe anyway.
