Snark aside, the idea that digital communication isn't just about getting information from a sanitised central source definitely is a change from the worldview of the 60s and 80s. That computers aren't just about accessing a database like a library, and that interacting with others won't be a telephone call... I'm spaaaaace like the 80s. The fear of technology that was personified in the Borg just seems quaint now that we have a version of our own hive mind.Oh great! I can already see the crew of the Shenzhou/Discovery walking in the corridors holding their iCorders and iPadds, taking HoloSelfies for their Facegram and Instachat and updating their status to RedAlerted when the ship's attacked. That's what representing the future as imagined in 2017 means.
