Joker Origin Story Announced

If you're against undercover cops in the crowd, what do you think would be an effective precaution?

I highly doubt that some undercover cops in the crowd is going to deter the masses from seeing it.
The cops make the threat seem credible. I bet they were pressured into doing this for political reasons or some group threatened to protest the movie which would then bring counter protesters. The next step in cancel culture. Jason

I don't have a problem undercover cops in the audience in general, it's just that on top of all of the other things they're doing.
This whole thing just seems like an overreaction to the movie, that's all. I could see if there had actually been some kind threats or something made, but according to the article, there haven't been any.
I could see being a bit cautious and maybe putting some extra security in and around the theaters, but they're just making such a huge deal about this that it feels like they're expecting every showing to be a massive bloodbath or something.

What other things? Metal detectors at the door? All I've seen them do so far is make the public aware that they are doing everything possible to prevent another theater shooting. That will help put the public's mind at ease as well as let potential shooters know that if they try and pull a copycat, there will be armed resistance.

If a shooting happens inside the theater, I'd much rather have someone there undercover who is trained to eliminate the threat than a security guy in uniform outside whose only job responsibility is to observe and report. If nothing happens then no harm ,no foul.

Druming up fear doesn't make people feel at ease. Neither does the prospect of a gunfight in a darkly lit room. This is almost on par with Bush's color coded terror alert system or can be if people keep doing this. I mean what are cops even looking for? Racially profiling creepy looking white guys. Are all Incels creepy looking. What if nerds come dressed up like many do for comic book movies? Jason

I have to wonder if this is going to end up being a massive flop, just because all of this is going to end up making everybody to scared to go see it.
I doubt it. It's the kind of movie that doesn't need a mega-budget to get made, so I can see it being a success very quickly. It could probably turn a profit easily even if you didn't release it in the US at all.

Probably not. People are going to get curious and see it.

..and so far, I have not heard one person in the real world concerned about theatre shootings involving this movie.

I thought there were going to have multiple cops outside every theater showing it, multiple cops inside all of the theaters, and cops in every auditorium at every theater that was showing it?

Are we going to put a review thread up for this? Saw the film today. Not blown away by it but it's interesting.

I think the Dark Knight was higher than that at one stage during it's release.

There are better movies that people haven't seen and perhaps never will so the rating system on IMDB will become fairly skewed as time goes on and younger audiences have a larger say.

I see on RT the typical gap is opening up between Audience Score and Critics.

BoxOfficeMojo has some numbers for the weekend...

WB is anticipating an opening anywhere from $70-80 million, while we see it more like $75-85+ million based on these metrics and perhaps topping $90 million.

And this means that we will see more villain movies from now on, with the success of this and also Venom.

I hope it brings back the adult drama and crime and anti-hero movie. It was a joke that Scorsese had to turn to Netflix for his latest movie. It is why I am rooting for Hustlers and Uncut Gems to be good successful. Jason

Television in one form or another is becoming the go-to for a lot of ambitious filmmaking - the more intelligent audiences are easily reached there, and the economics make a lot more sense I'm mildly surprised if it's true that Scorsese had no choice - Tarantino continues to do well on the big screen.

Guy Ritchie's movie, Gentlemen might be worth a look then.

Did he turn to Netflix, or did Netflix pay him a bazillion dollars as they continue to obsess over winning a best picture Oscar?
