Joker Origin Story Announced

Can The Last Temptation of Christ get some love up in here? :D

I really enjoyed it. I’m not at all religious but I loved its conceit of a human being having to confront his godliness; someone who wanted to live a normal human life but could not escape his destiny. I was actually reminded of it in the Doctor Who two-part Family of Blood, where Ten is living and enjoying his life as John Smith in pre-WWI England but has to become the Doctor again and abandon the simple life he loves. The sequence where he lives a mortal but happy lifetime then has to sacrifice himself to be the Son of Man is very moving.

They should use some music by Breaking Benjamin for 'The Joker'.

Why?

Well, it would seem appropriate considering the following.

Joaquin Phoenix on the left, Ben Burnley on the right:

From the Hollywood Reporter

Baldwin has been tapped for the role of Thomas Wayne, who in Batman lore is the father of Bruce Wayne, the future caped crusader.

But this being a movie project that will veer off-center from the traditional Batman canon, sources say the script paints Thomas Wayne as a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump.

rolls up newspaper and repeatedly hits Warner exec with it
Stop. Fucking. Up. Your. Non-. Wonder. Woman. Movies.*

*Yes, Shazam! looks good so far, but that's a New Line joint.

This isn't a Batman movie, and Thomas Wayne has been known to be a dickish asshole in some versions of the comics, so I don't see a problem with this.

It's an Elseworlds movie movie after all, if they're not gonna do something "Else" with it, what's the point of it then?

This is what I suspected it would be...Scorcese merely wanting to tell his own story and hijacking an existing character like Joker to draw in an audience.

I hope they give five different disjointed origin stories in the same movie and never say for sure which one is supposed to be 'right.'

Exactly. Isn't that the whole POINT of the Joker, after all - that nobody (not even the Joker himself) knows his true origin?

That's been my fear since this was first announced. Scorcese just doesn't really strike me as the type to do a comic book movie, so I've kind of figured since it was announced that it was probably going to end up having nothing to do with the comics version of the Joker.

Yeah, and the Dark Knight trilogy wasn't Batman movies; it was Christopher Nolan movies that just happened to have Batman in them.

I always thought Baldwin would’ve been a more obvious (not necessarily better but more how one might’ve expected) Batman than his fellow Beetlejuice co-star Michael Keaton. Not sure I like the idea of Thomas Wayne as a brash Trump-like business man.

He was one of the actors considered for Batman back in 1989 for the Burton movie.

We'll have to settle with 1994 "The Shadow" movie :D
