Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor

In all this discussion (which thankfully is still 90% more civilised than anywhere else you could go) the real question has yet to be asked; will she go the Eccleston route and keep her accent or have to Lahn-dan it up like Tennant?

On a side note, can we read anything into the fact that it's the pre-Moffat-era TARDIS exterior at the end of the clip? I wonder if we'll be going back to that prop again.

Depending on when the promo was shot, it's not outside the realm of possibility that the current TARDIS was being used for shooting on either season ten or the Christmas special, so they had to haul out the Eccleston / Tennant-era one.

I have a feeling this was shot in the past couple of weeks and like you said they are currently filming Christmas Special...........

So the people against this casting choice also throw around comments about SJW's and claim feminism is a female supremacy movement.

How depressingly predictable.
In my experience, folk who use the "SJW" label are the ones who don't see the people starving and
dieing under the bushes in the park.

On topic: I think they set up Bill really well to continue as Companion, at least initially. Pearl was
seen onset for the Christmas special...

I don't even see how it works as an insult. Who sees being against equality and fairness as the right side of history to be on?

Well, except...

What do I think of the new Doctor?

Yeah while I quickly became a huge fan of Capaldi's Doctor, I can't say the casting really got me terribly excited about the show again. But this somehow feels different and has me as hyped for the new season as when Moffat and Smith first took over.

When Peter Capaldi was announced I also became quite hyped, not as much as now, but I did. I was very anxious to see how NuWho would handle an Older Doctor. TBF it paid off. Twelve still is my favorite NuWho Doctor. The only thing that made me a little bit nervous back then was the fact that I didn't knew much of his work. Once I started to watch "The Thick of It" I knew Capaldi was the Doctor. The fact that I'm familiar with Jodie Whittaker's work makes me feel so much more relieved.

And yeah, Doctor Who is change incarnate. The more unusual it is, the more wonderful DW becomes. And I hope after Whittaker's Era they manage to surprise us even more.

This casting is awesome. I'm so glad it wasn't just another generic dude. I've only seen Whittaker a bit in Broadchurch (I watched series 1), but I think she'll fit the part well. Hopefully this casting, and the new producer, will really re-energize this show. Capaldi was great (even when the writing wasn't), but I'm really excited for the 13th Doctor.

I hope she stays northern, personally. A lot of my UK TV intake, for some reason, is set in the north (most often Manchester and surroundings), so those accents sound comfortably familiar to these Canadian ears.

I can imagine it - to paraphrase Twelve in 'Deep Breath' (and a tweet I saw somewhere) ...

Thirteen: Ee by gum - I've gone Yorkshire, haven't I. I've gone Yorkshire. If I go any more Yorkshire, I'll be a Bronte, or rain ...
