Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor

Can't we respect other people's preferences?
Not when that opinion isn't worthy of respect. Your opinions are bad and you should feel bad.

If you're wanting a safe space to share your pig-ignorant opinion with like minded individuals, perhaps a forum discussing a show with "infinite diversity in infinite combinations" as one of its themes isn't the place for you.

Fictional time travellers don’t have vaginas, insist morons:

Travelling through space and time in a police box requires a penis, according to several Internet morons this evening.

As Jodie Whittaker was confirmed as the new Doctor, lots of angry idiots insisted that the genitals of the Doctor play an essential role in the universe in which he resides.

Fan of made up science fiction television stories, Simon Williams, told us,”Yes I am angry about Jodie Whittaker being made the next Doctor.

“But I’m also angry that they have made me so angry about the lack of a penis in a TV show – which sounds extremely weird when I say it like that.

“But it’s not weird, it’s normal. Yes it is, shut up.

“Just because Gallifrey doesn’t actually exist and time travel isn’t really possible, doesn’t mean the writers can just go around making stuff up about the people they’ve made up.”

“Actually, that’s literally what we can do,” explained one of the show’s writers.

“The Doctor has a long history of not using his penis to resolve issues across time and space, and we’re confident that Jodie Whittaker will have no issues in continuing that fine tradition.”

Wow, awesome news! I thought for sure BBC was going to play it super safe and just find another Tennant/Smith type (which I was frankly having a hard time getting too excited about). But this casting really does have me intrigued and excited about the new season.

I mean after all the crazy and outlandish stories we've seen on this show over the last 50 years, an alien Time Lord regenerating into a woman shouldn't seem farfetched to us at all. And it's frankly baffling to me why so many fans would be outraged.

Well considering we know absolutely nothing else about her at this stage, not even heard her voice, it's hard to see any feasible reason to 'not be a fan' other than the fact she's female.

Well, let's see what we can do about that... (Warning: N necessarily SFW...)

It's not baffling at all. The explanation is depressingly simple.

That's the sound of sarcasm whooshing over your head. ;)

I'm dead serious. No sarcasm whatsoever. People seem to think only men have an issue with this casting decision, and they're wrong.

Part of the Doctor's character has always been the boy who never grew up, like Peter Pan. Its a male archetype which doesn't work with a woman in the role. The Master is a different character, which is why it didn't matter when Michelle Gomez was the Master. There are aspects of male psychology that are different from female psychology.

Sexism: discrimination or devaluation based on a person's sex or gender, as in restricted job opportunities, especially such discrimination directed against women.

Its not sexism at all to think there are some characters that are either male or female, because recasting that character as someone of the opposite sex fundamentally changes who that character is. No one is denying Jodi Whittaker acting roles because she's a woman. She's free to have any job, or do anything, she wants. Wonder Woman wouldn't work as a man. Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Captain Kirk or James Bond wouldn't be the same character if played by a woman.

And people who throw labels without knowing someone is wrong! It's simplification of them, to a degree that doesn't have any merit. Shut up male! If you don't like it, your sexist., yea whatever

I'm also tired of people saying I'm something I'm not simply for having a different opinion. Its just a tactic to stifle discussion and debate. And its really offensive and tiring to be labeled sexist/racist/bigot/homophobe, when you know you're not.

I was a feminist until it became clear its become a female supremacist movement. It was supposed to be about equality for men AND women. I see a lot of good men & normal boys being absolutely demonized by modern feminists & leftists, which is kinda gross. I was raised by my dad & his parents, and he always told me I could be or do anything I wanted to if I worked at it. Like you, he's not at all happy with a Jodi Whittaker being cast as the Doctor.
