I feel like people are willing to give Chris Chibnall a pass for anything, even if Series 12 only had 6 episodes, each featuring Teeth Face, because they still hold an irrational hatred for Steven Moffat for staying on longer than he should have.

Nah, there are just as many Chibnall haters as there were Moffat haters and as many as Davies haters. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I feel bad about the entire Doctor Who production team. I hope this gap year was announced before people signed on to do the show so they have projects to do before filming begins in early 2020.

Not me. I never stopped loving Moffat. I would have loved to seen him in charge of the show this year with Jodie also as the Doctor.

You think the grips and the wardrobe people would have to sit around until Who production began? They would be free to take jobs in the meantime. They would have a job waiting.
True, though I would point out the AI figures are comparatively poor so there is objective evidence that this is the opinion of a lot of people.
I've enjoyed this season, but no more than season 10 tbh, and in some cases far less.
Here's an idea.
What got me into scriptwriting was the fact that VOY had an open submission policy. You could write it, submit it, they'd read it and respond or not. I got a response and pitched ideas to them on a regular basis, but never quite got over the line.
Why can't the Beeb do that for Who?
There's at least half a dozen people here who could pitch strong ideas, and even left to basically just a 'story by' credit, I'm sure there would be a heap of fresh ideas.

Could there be to many writers. From what I understand this is the first year the show has had a kind of traditional tv writing staff. Not sure how it was done in the past but I wonder if it's like you would read about Trek were everyone goes over a script and pitches idea's or improvements. I mean it works fine for some shows but I do kind of like the idea of a head honco also carrying the bulk of the writing like JMS on Babylon 5 or Aaron Sorkin with his show. Only problem is Chibnall is clearly not in their class of being a writing God.

Most of people working in this business are freelancers.........so not a big deal, AND I think you read things wrong. Filming will begin after the holidays in early 2019......it just won't AIR until 2020.
Maybe it’s ok to take a year off ten minutes into the new job....Moffat only took time off after a few years after all, the fool.
I can feel the impending sequel to the wilderness years. The New New Adventures. I don’t think it will work as well this time.

That would be fair criticism. The first episode was a masterpiece of effectively setting up the series. Very well written. Episodes 2-4 were utter crap!
That is the good side to it for sure. The characters were the highlight of the season for me.
But, the BBC needs to get its act together. The irregular schedule with extended beaks kills any momentum.
I believe I heard that each GoT episode in the finale season will be movie length though. So, no real comparison.
And that also applies to the John Nathan Turner era back during the original series run in the mid-to-late '80's.
I'm really thinking that the problem goes to the Showrunner model that we've got. It must be really hard to produce the show and write a good portion of the episodes. And, DW episodes must be extra difficult to write because you should be thinking outside the box. I think RTD must've been a workaholic or something. But, definitely the exception to what a DW showrunner can do and NOT the rule. Moffat was able to manage to a degree but also struggled. But, it might be beyond Chibnall's and most other humans' capabilities!
I'm thinking it's time to go back to the Producer/Script Editor model. Maybe a bit of adjustment from the Classic Who days, if the Producer and/or Script Editor wanted to write a few stories. Those two roles seem to require specialized skills. You might be great in one but not so good in the other. Very few people will master both--particularly when writing for DW. And, we may have run out of those people!
