JJ Abrams was the guest for the first half-hour of Charlie Rose's PBS show, Monday night. An eight minute clip of the interview can be seen on Rose's website:

If you still don't think Trek is in good hands, you needed to hear this interview. Abrams cares a great deal about the characters. Three clips were shown, but nothing new.

I'm waiting to actually *see* the movie before placing him on his pedestal. What I've heard does seem encouraging though.

Most interesting point: He said he felt that the movie being shown is the one that was made. How often do you HEAR ANY producer or director say this? Pretty amazing. He had an extra six months to tweak the sound mix till it was perfect.
Also JJ Abrams using Richard Donner's Superman as a model for Trek. He wanted to make it seem like the starship really could fly.

Saw your thread after posting mine. I waited until the interview clip appeared on Rose's site to post the thread. I thought I was still in the clear.

Totally agree - Trek is in great hands. JJ talks about his love of The Twilight Zone. Many Trek, TOS, vets came out of those days. I'd say JJ is perhaps preternaturally the best hands for Star Trek in the 21st Century.
