Jetfreak's Alternate Universe Excelsior...

Thanks, guys. 
And, thanks to all of those that kept on me... I'm really glad I re-did those the way I did.
OK, did some more... I detailed the nacelles some more, and started the saucer. I'm going with the idea (right now) that I'm going to do one row of vertical windows around that thin rim of the saucer, kind of like the E-D has got. Not sure how that'll look, yet, but we'll see.
There'll probably be a few TNG movie type details showing up on this thing, as well... no escape pods, though!

NOW she's starting to look like an Excelsior! The ONLY thing I would change, is to actually widen/thicken the neck even more... IDK why, but it just still looks a bit too thin, IMO.
Along the port-starboard axis or the long axis?

BolianAuthor, I think you keep wanting it to be wider, only because the original's neck went all the way across. That won't work in this case, with the way the back part of the neck blends in, and since the top of this secondary hull isn't flat.

Why not adopt a teardrop top profile to the neck, then? Wider at the front, and tapering to a narrower point at the aft?

I'm thinking Fat Nacelles are a must have design feature of the new universe. We can't have smaller ones than the Klingons.
I don't think that'll work... it has to start off really wide at the back, to flow into the hull there... once it gets that far forward, it's got that sharp pointy curve there, instead of the almost circular curve on the original ship...

Very Nice Concept/ Update. It took me a while to get used to the Excelsior back in the day, Now I love it. This Re-imagining actually makes her look better in my opinion. I was/ am not all that happy with the JJ prise but I am sure it will grow on me in time.

MadMan, I need to stop looking at your threads. I only have so many pairs of undershorts and wash day is too far away yet.
I like it except for one small detail... I think you need to move the connection point between the neck and the secondary hull forward a bit more, so that it's more of a continuous line.
That's always (in my mind) what gives/gave the Excelsior that "chesty" look (for want of an expression), when compared to the TMP refit or TOS ship.

Wow wee...those are some of the slickest nacelles I've seen in a long time...and they have a subtle "buck rogers rocketship" feel to them (I love that

Now, if the E-B had looked like this Generations, I would have been happy. I REALLY like what you have done to the nacelles.
