Jenny

She's gained lots of media attention purely for who her father is and who she sleeps with.

Er... where?

See Allyn's post right above yours. Her father is the Fifth Doctor and her husband is the Tenth Doctor -- who played her father in "The Doctor's Daughter." Which is often seen as kinky and incestuous by people who don't understand the difference between actors and their characters. (Oh, and her mom is Trillian.)

Christopher, I think Iamnotspock's question "Er... where?" was a snark at DalekJim's assertion that Georgia Moffett had media attention even her home country. At least, that was the way I read it. :)

Honestly, the biggest attention I've seen Georgia Moffett get was when The Doctor's Daughter aired and everyone was making a big deal that due to her being Peter Davison's actual daughter, she literally is the Doctor's daughter. And that's it really. Her relationship with Tennant just never gets much talk outside Who circles. Even within Who circles, it's not that big a deal. You might see the occasional joke about Tennant marrying his daughter, but that's few and far between. Calling her Who's Paris Hilton or Kardashian is so inaccurate it doesn't even make sense.

She's gained lots of media attention purely for who her father is and who she sleeps with. Entire threads on GallifreyBase would be devoted to this stuff.

Sounds like GallifreyBase has an obsession with her. Which is their problem, and not her fault.

Doctor Who has always been something of a tall tale, and part of the fun of tall tales is their cavalier approach to their own internal logic and consistency. It's the kind of show where one needs to turn off one's continuity-policing urges and just go with it.

Exactly. She may be used again, in one year or fifty, or we may never see her again, just like the Doctor may visit Peladon again one day, or he may not.

Since when? Internal consistency is pretty much completely necessary for such stories because they have to be so simple you can sum them up in a few sentences. Rules are set up early on with a clear path towards the resolution of the drama. Magic beans grow stalks to the cloud kingdom, true love's kiss breaks the spell, an act of selflessness does something magical, etc. You might be thinking of Judeo-Christian scripture, or Steven Erikson.

^Those are fairy tales you're referring to, not tall tales. Tall tales are things like the story of Paul Bunyan or the claims of Baron Munchhausen -- tales that are based on brazen exaggeration and implausibility.

I was indeed being a tad snarky. I'm well aware of who she is but I doubt very many outside of Who fandom are, as Allyn pointed out. She's a solid, recognisable working actress but her status among the mainstream in the UK is pretty much, "Oh, it's... whatshername." They may know of her family connections to Who if they've read the odd Digital Spy article, but that's hardly representative of the media as a whole. :)

My bad, I could blame my extra glass of scotch last night but I still don't see where the lack of internal consistency is. The implicit claim that all of these events occurred in the real world encourages whoever is telling the story to tailor each version to their audience to make it feel momentarily plausible in the telling. Each tale is not necessarily consistent with the others, but they're not created to be a narrative. If you were to gather them up to write a Paul Bunyan epic it would be pretty piss-poor storytelling to not fix any conflicting details.

Georgia Moffett is in danger of being the Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian of the Doctor Who empire, and I don't think the show should really humour this notion by casting her again.

 What nonsense.

I'd really like to see Jenny again, she was a lot of fun. Preferably played by Georgia Moffatt ofc.

Looking at pictures of the lady, what she is in danger of becoming is bald if she doesn't lay off the bleach.

I had a friend who's head turned into a wasteland because she had no selfcontrol.

Yeah I don't get the hate. She can't help being Davison's daughter and if nepotism was that much of an issue she'd have got the part of Rose (which I believe she went for). Her relationship with Tennant came after she was cast, and it isn't like she's trading on the celebrity of being a the daughter and wife of a Doctor(s). As has been said she's been very much off the radar for the last few years so comparing her to the likes of Paris Hilton or that Cardasian woman is hyperbole gone mad!

Funny how the same issues of nepotism weren't raised a few episodes later when David Troughton guest stared in Midnight. But then obviously he's a bloke so can be judged on his own merits rather than the fact he's the son of a Doctor...

She would have made a good Rose. Not that I have anything against Billie Piper and I certainly understand why she was cast. But I think Georgia Moffett could have been a good Rose too, in a what if world.

Of course, if she had still developed a relationship with Tennant, then having the Doctor constantly mentioning how much he missed Rose would have gotten a bit too meta.

I just find a lot of these publicity stunts quite tacky, and think they chip away at the show's integrity. Casting The Doctor's daughter as The Doctor's daughter is just too meta-showbiz for me. It's an episode that just existed to gain tabloid inches, down to the stunt-casting and stunt-title.

Other people's mileage may vary, but I don't believe for one second that it was a coincidence, and the episode is held in contempt by a lot of fans for very good reasons. It's a pile of wank.

So, no matter how right she may have been for the part (In TPTB minds) for the part, she should've been denied the job, simply because she's Davison's daughter?

I'm American, so, not privvy to as much Doctor Who Media coverage as you might be, but, I had no idea until well after the airing of the episode, after she was already pregnant with Tennant's child that she was in a relationship with Tennant, nor that she was Davison's Daughter (I found about Tennant first with the announcement of the pregnancy, and then about Davison)

Based on what? I don't see any reason to hold such a belief. After all, we're talking about the British acting community, which is well-known for its dynasties. There are plenty of British actors out there who are the children or grandchildren of earlier famous actors -- Jemma Redgrave, Natasha and Joely Richardson, David and Sam Troughton, Sean Pertwee, Mark Sheppard, etc. So it's not really that improbable that a given British actress auditioning for a role would happen to be the daughter of somebody famous. And given how long Doctor Who has been on the air, it's not that surprising that a lot of actors and actresses working today would be the children of Who veterans.

So statistically speaking, it's not that unlikely that the child of a former Doctor would've gotten some role in Doctor Who. As mentioned above, David Troughton has also done it. And we know that Georgia Moffett auditioned for several roles on the show around that time. So yeah, it's a bit of a coincidence that she got the "Doctor's daughter" role, but it's not a particularly extraordinary coincidence given the factors involved.

I think the fact she'd been denied previously for roles that weren't The Doctor's daughter, made it even more obvious that she was only cast for tabloid inches.

She is far from the worst guest star they've had, or even the worst in that episode. Maybe she just had a better audition this time, or her reading wasn't what they were looking for before. I'm sure the meta aspects were considered, but the hate on her just seems a bit extreme considering her performance was perfectly acceptable.
